2023 NFL Regular Season Through Super Bowl LVIII

Why did they pick him in the first place then? They traded up to get a third overall pick, and just turned it into a fourth round pick. 3D chess, man!

No gosh-darn idea. They thought Jimmy G's wheels would fly off sooner rather than later (correctly so), so they decided to get a guy with franchise QB potential. However, said guy was too injury-prone to ever get anything close to a reasonable sample size and lost any chance of a return when a cheaper option emerged. I guess that's the reasoning.

However, this is still a stupid team that hasn't signed Bosa. I fully expect this year to be a .500-ish campaign that ends in an NFC title loss.

Good question.  I thought it was a huge reach (and a pretty dumb pick) when they drafted him where they did. If he hadn't been a 1st round pick, he would have been gone long before now. In any case, I wouldn't sweat losing him to Dallas.

The Niners made a deal for that pick and I think even they were shocked that the Bears (I think it was the Bears?) took the deal. It was a case of the dog finally catching tue car tire. Once it has it, it doesn’t actually know what to do with it. They didn’t necessarily need a QB at that time (they had Jimmy G and he was probably not gonna stick as “the guy”, but he also was serviceable), but they already put so much into getting that pick so they sorta had to pick one. Problem is they panicked and picked the kid made out of glass rather than the speedy guy with a ton of questions. It’s just another example of the Niners overthinking things and having some real dumb luck mixed in with it. It’s almost as if Montana/Young put a QB curse on them. They’ve had the most dumb luck timing with QBs. Whenever there’s a real game changer, they’re picking late. Whenever they do have a high pick though, there’s almost always slim pickings or two guys that are close, and they’ve consistently gone with the wrong guy.

When I was a young kid I ditched the Niners, who are a league icon, for one of the sorriest teams in the history of the NFL. Since then I’ve seen my sorry ass team win two Super Bowls, while the Niners haven’t won any. I guess that’s why you play the games.

Because they are just dumping him and his contract for anything in return, Dallas won’t use him.

Does Dak have some dirt on Jerry Jones or something? I think he still has some promise. People might be surprised.

I'm such a moron that I only ever saw the Niners win with Jimmy G and didn't understand why they wanted him gone so bad.

But they'll pay him $5M and let him cut into their cap next year.  While that's not a lot for a decent backup, he hasn't proven that he's even that.  If they don't feel like he's Dak's eventual successor (and he should be succeeded sooner rather than later), it'll go down as a typical dumb Cowboys move.

That being said, regardless of how proven he is, I'd rather him be the Eagles backup over Mariota, who may not be any better than anyone on this forum at this point.  Too bad they gave him $5M that they can't get out of.  That being said, I doubt there will ever be another North Dakota State QB on the Eagles, even if Wentz' spiral from MVP to mental and physical train wreck was more about him personally and less about where he played.

Am I missing something or did Cooper Rush just go bye-bye or something?

He's the backup. The speculation I read on PFT is that this gives Dallas another option if next year's required* renegotion with Prescott doesn't go well.

*Required in that his cap number would be BIG

It's where I sit.

Odds of that happening are pretty good.

Niners are really dumb. This is gonna come back to bite them, I just know it. Why in the world would they make this trade with Dallas, of all teams?

Niners trading Trey Lance to Cowboys.

Lance is QB3 in Dallas. He will never see the field for them.

The Cowboys threw away a 4th round pick so people would talk about them. And look, we're talking about them.

Not a fan at all of the Seahawks hosting the night game on Thanksgiving. The third game should be for an AFC team. I liked the original idea of giving it to Kansas City. Felt nice and heartlandy.

I've also thought about Buffalo being in the rotation, if they wanted it.  It just "feels" like a Thanksgiving-game-type place.  Regardless, Detroit needs to be out of the rotation.  I don't even care if they get good.  I can't stand watching games from inside that awful stadium with it's crappy lighting.  It can make even the most exciting game seem sterile.

Regarding Kansas City... according to SportsCenter, they're having talks with Carson Wentz and "keeping the dialogue open" incase they need him.   While I may end up eating these words, because that' just how the universe works, how poetic it would be for Mahomes to get injured* in week 15, Wentz to lead them to the Super Bowl, and then get smashed by his original team and guy that ended up taking his job.

*I'm not wishing injury on Mahomes, just saying the situation would create a great storyline.

If the Chiefs don't repeat Chiefs Kingdom know who to blame if they sign him.  They do however have Blaine Gabbert and Mahomes has been picking his brain to see how Tom Brady works.

LOL so Mahomes is like "yo Blaine, what would Tom have done right there?"  "would Tom eat this?"  "What shampoo does Tom use?"

He wants to surpass TB12 in Super Bowl rings, so might as well follow him.

Actually, it's more football related stuff.  How Brady would read certain defenses etc.

I agree on Buffalo. I guess we'd have to consider New England for Thanksgiving, too, but it should be some tight rotation of charter AFC teams.  Gotta keep Detroit, though. It's all they have!
