FiddySicks
Yeah, this is by far my favorite of the CityConnect project. It’s not perfect by any means, but it has something that basically none of these other goofy ass uniforms have, and that’s something they could potentially use in their regular set. It’s amazing that it took nearly 2/3 of the league unveiling these before we got that, but that bridge logo (and frankly, those colors) should be the cornerstones for a rebrand. 5 2 Quote On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) I actually think a surprising amount of the City Connects so far have elements that would improve on the primary brand. Just to go through them one-by-one: I've long thought the Diamondbacks should have sand road uniforms, and the "Serpientes" set pulls that look off really well. The pinstripes on black look wonderful for the White Sox, I'd be happy to see the Southside uniform become a permanent part of their set. I love the mountain on the front of the jersey for Colorado, I think it works great as an alternate look. The forest green could afford to be included in their main set, too, it's definitely better than black. The Astros incorporating the warm gradient in the striping and using the "NASA" font would improve their safe but bland set, in my opinion. The cap logo is fantastic as well. The Royals' fountain-inspired logos aren't necessarily better than their main ones, but they'd be perfectly suitable logos if they were a brand new expansion team. Pretty much everything about the Angels' City uniform is an improvement on their main set, in my opinion. Miami using brighter colors is how they should handle their main set, although the new blue jersey is a step in the right direction. The Brewers having a powder blue jersey, and the Pirates having a gold jersey are both welcome additions to their sets. I think Seattle's wordmark and trident M would be a wonderful place to start a rebrand. And with the Rays, I agree that the colors and logos would be a nice start for a rebrand, definitely at least better than their primary set. I was not optimistic about the City Connect program at all when it was announced, it seemed like a cheap NBA copy (which, as far as the original premise goes, it still sort of is). However, a large majority of the designs so far have been pleasantly surprising for me, not leaning too far into the city aspect, still retaining some key components of each team's main identity.
FiddySicks
I do agree that there are elements of these CityConnects that can/will be incorporated into the main sets for some of these teams. But most of those that would really work (your White Sox example is a good one. As are the color additions for some of the teams), and some of the ones that have elements that would work (Colorado, Astros gradient) seem more like alts or slight tweaks. But this is the first one that really feels like it has some legs for a full rebrand, IMO. I don’t agree with you about some teams (Seattle, Angels especially), but some of that is probably my personal tastes. The only other one of these I’ve seen that really hit me in a good way was the Royals. But even that I don’t think is enough to supplant what they’re already wearing. Parts of this Rays set absolutely do, for me anyway. The Rays are also a perfect candidate for a change, too. Their look is dreadfully boring IMO, and I’m hoping they brighten it up a bit with this new stadium they’re exploiting from the taxpayers building. 5 Quote On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) As previously noted, both would read better on a different color jersey. (My vote would be purple.) The single sleeve stripe harkens back to the original (but scrapped) Rays black jersey. Number font reads NASCAR to me. I am somewhat amused by the NOB and mark of the beast being the easiest to read things on the jersey. "See, you CAN read tiny NOBs if we make 'em bright enough" sayeth the Lords of Nike.
SportsFan12
It took the Mets just two days to go off schedule and wear the City Connect jersey on a random Monday night. I read that the Rays are going to wear theirs for a couple of road games? Didn’t even know that was allowed

This quote was from the CCSLC Mothership article Quote Worth noting, the road games (yes, they’re taking these on the road!) on June 15th at Atlanta and August 7th at St. Louis will feature both clubs wearing their City Connect uniforms. No, the Cardinals have not unveiled theirs yet, but they will have between now and then.
NOLAPelicans23
Out of all the teams that could use the City Connect as a rebrand, it's the Rays, Marlins, and maybe the Rockies The Rays' use of the gradient and the new logos are fun and creative. I wish the jersey matched one of the fashion hats because the logo pops on the teal version. It gets us away from the double blue, especially being in the same division as Toronto, and with the new stadium hopefully not looking as dreary as Tropicana, it would be great to see long-term. The Marlins look great without black. They've had my favorite CC jersey because of the font, the pinstripes, and the nice contrast of blue and red. Someone said it, the blue jersey helps in going that direction, but l don't like how black is the main color. I also am not in love with the black jersey as much as I thought I would because of the differences between the hat logo and the jersey. It Feels disconnected. The Rockies are my maybe because the current uniforms aren't great. For a team that's supposed to be purple as the primary color, it's barely noticeable. Adding green over black is creative but it might not look great as a long-term color.

The Rays store tends to sell many colorways of merchandise that you can't get anywhere else. It's just fan gear, not for on field. Take a look at The Bay Republic, you'll see many different items in normal and throwback colors.

I see what you're saying now, that this is the first City Connect that could work as the basis for a complete rebrand, as opposed to an evolution of the current brand. Pretty much all of the examples I listed are evolutions of the team's primary brand, while the Rays' has nothing to do with the post-2008 brand, and everything to do with the throwbacks. I love the navy, columbia, and yellow as a color scheme, but I do think it's about time for the Rays to rebrand and go back to the throwback colors. Their current logo set and uniforms are just way too uninspiring to carry an otherwise really pleasant color scheme.

Brave-Bird 08
So, Braves are at the Mariners tonight... Atlanta is once again in their grey road uniforms, which they have worn in every road game so far this season (14 for 14). No sign of the "new" blue alternates that they wore for the duration of spring training. And the Ms might be showing why; they are in blue tops and there's a distinct difference between the blue in their caps and the shirts. Both the Braves shirts from ST and Mariners shirts I am looking at tonight are a lighter shade of navy and in certain lighting almost look purple. The difference between them and the blue of the New Era caps is annoying. I wonder if the Braves have resisted wearing theirs for that reason? UPDATE: I just looked at the Braves shop and they don't even have the blue jerseys to purchase unless it's a youth or women's. I wonder if they have officially canned them already?

I don't know if I like how dark the set is... really thinking there will be eligibility issues on the field. However, the logo set is fun. I love how ridiculous the skating ray one is and I would totally buy something with that on it. The "skyray" is clever as well. That's honestly the one great joy of the City Connect uniform. Except for San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, they've really either hit on local culture or the team identity.
