Michael Vick's number was 7, and the 7 and 1 don't look alike in the Falcons' current font.

The 1 does kind of look like a 7 would in some other fonts, though.

This is such an awful number set, I think easily the worst in the league now. The rest of the Falcons current uniform set is fine but these numbers are what's really dragging them down.

The myth of the titans has nothing whatsoever to do with flames and the sword logo with its straight rather than leaf shaped sides coming to sharply angled point more closely resembles a Roman gladius than it does an Greek Xiphos or Kopis (and if you think this nerd hasn't been holding onto that one for a quarter century think again).

The designers also knew that logo that can be viewed from the back of the helmet like the Eagles' wings, Vikings' horns, and Seahawks'... stripes(?) are visually striking. So they added some flames so you could see something from the back of the helmet and if you asked why they were there a simple, "It looks cool sufficed."

Can you actually confirm that? Because I always got the notion that the flames were not a nod to the "Titans" name, but Greek mythology and given the fact that Nashville is known as the "Athens of America." I know it's from Wikipedia, but we have this...

"The idea for the Olympic flame was derived from ancient Greek ceremonies where a sacred fire was kept burning throughout the celebration of the ancient Olympics on the altar of the sanctuary of Hestia.[3][4] In Ancient Greek mythology, fire had divine connotations and it was thought to have been stolen from the gods by Prometheus. Sacred fires were present at many ancient Greek sanctuaries, including those at Olympia. Every four years, when Zeus was honoured at the Olympic Games, additional fires were lit at his temple and that of his wife, Hera. The modern Olympic flame is ignited every two years in front of the ruins of the temple of Hera."

Whether or not it was the intent, the Olympics tie-in would make a lot of sense.

I actually kinda like how it has the tiny little “ghost” outline on the numbers. Reminds me of TikTok, but more than that it reminds me of those old coloring books that had red and blue outlines and you’d put on special glasses and they’d look 3-D.

Nashville does claim to be the Athens of the South (hence their replica of the Parthenon) but Athens was not Olympia. That city is on Peloponnese and basically the other side of Greece.

You might have something on Prometheus, who was a Titan (one of the few spared by the Olympians after the Titanomachy) and stole fire from Olympus.

I guess Titans is more catchy than Prometheans.

Still, I think the main point is that it looked cool and there really isn't an obvious reason for a shield to be on fire.

The more I think about this, the more I think you're right.

And I found a Prometheus reference in Bud Adams' obituary.

Additionally, and I never knew this, Prometheus had his primary cult center in Athens.

So do they review film on a Promethean board?

The Titans current uniforms are a total train wreck, but I’ve always kinda loved what they initially came up with. I’ve always liked the “Flaming Thumbtack” logo, the sword is an EXCELLENT alt logo, and the colors are really good. I also agree that their initial Titans uniforms were basically perfect, and every tweak they made to that set made it worse.

I guess that’s an unpopular opinion, but oh well 🤷‍♂️

This guy has the most favorite uniform designs I can ever imagine

Titans font is worse (Rams too because I hate gradients)

- Titans is a standout moniker, unlike "Bears," "Lions," "Commanders," etc.

- Like what Nashville did with the Predators, which is equally an awesome brand, they chose a starting point of something unique to the city and built around it -- in this case, the Parthenon

- Logo is tailored for a football helmet, and is a perfect balance of signifying the locale (Tennessee flag motif) and the moniker (shield, flames, the sword effect of the T).

- Colors are fantastic

- Their previous uniforms were modern classics

My tongue is halfway in my cheek here, but sorry that they created a brand in the late 90s and didn't use a brutalist hand-drawn logo and walk out with northwestern stripes on their sleeves...

Based on the bolded, that tongue has got to be more than halfway in your cheek.

Now, I do like the Titans moniker because of tie-in, but that name does not come off as standout in the least. Logo is still great, miss the old uniforms like most here.

I still hate those numbers, but I kind of think the only way the Titans are ever going to get Houston to back off of the Oilers look is if they just went straight up Oilers cosplay just out of spite. Trying to own that powder blue by actually wearing a powder blue helmet would probably push in that direction, too.

2001: falcons changed jerseys 4 calendar years prior, draft a lefty QB named Michael who lost a national championship game and had an amazing deep ball.

Was it ever on the same level as the Steelers or Bears? Of course not, but it was damn good.

My biggest fear about the Texans redesign is that we'll be saying this about the originals in 5 years
