For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head. Thats what it looks like to me. Also the flair around the tip of the beak is just flair that fleur de lis have sometimes source I am from NOLA.

If you are going to change, why not go all the way and pick something cool and exciting instead?

Well, you know, you should trade nicknames between the Wild and Ducks. Ducks WOULD be an appropriate name for a Minnesota team. Wild is terrible. Another bad singular moniker with weird colors and font lettering. Now bring back "Fighting Saints," or better yet, "North Stars!" I only wished the Wild had tried to use "North Stars," just to watch that pirate owner in Dallas squeal! :D

what exactly makes tom hicks a pirate? :)

or are you still under the impression that norm green has anything at all to do with the franchise?

Sorry, I didn't know, I thought his name was Norm Gund, did not own them anymore. That being said, while I do not have anything against Dallas having an NHL team, I do not like how they got it. At least Minnesota got a team back.

But it does make it a more difficult task... especially given the number of logos out there that play off birds and bird features already, even in the NHL (the Red Wings, the Thrashers, the Penguins... am I missing any?)

Caps.

I was about to ask how the Red WINGS had any kind of bird association. Duh.

You're very brave to admit that. :P

I think they will adopt a more traditional style logo and jersey to avoid any comparisons to Disney, cartoons, etc. I think they will probably use a stylized 'Anaheim', 'A', 'D', 'AD', 'Ducks' logo and avoid using a duck per se, with allusion to feathers, wings, or something to that effect. I'm thinking new style traditional. Nothing abstract, busy, or too flashy.

Angled Anaheim with a sideways webbed foot for a D in the word Ducks

Any word on the colours and/or jersey design? Are they going with the green/orange or original colours or something totally different now?

I never said anyone was going to like the new logo, in fact, personally I think it sucks!

and a waste of a great opportunity to rebrand their image.

Oh God, I hope this logo and uniform is good! I've had to defend my team for the past 13 years... Here's a chance to show hockey fans that the Ducks mean business. Hopefully the Anaheim organization knows and takes advantage of this!

Well, we've all learned from Disney movies that miracles do happen...so here's hoping! lol. If not, well, looks like another 13 years of defending their honour.

If what you are saying is true, I don't understand how anyone in the organization, including the owners themselves could let this happen. They have to know there's a reason there changing everything around! Its to not let the cartoony, gimmicky, cheesy, throwaway, immature, unprofessional, etc thing happen again (not that the old name, logo, etc was so bad but you get my point). I'm gonna have to go down to Ducks head office myself if I have to! lol.

Thats what happens when you have an owner that lets his teenage daugther pick the logo ("seriously, thats how it happened.") Kind of hard to defend a that level of nonsense my friend.

Wait a minute, a teenage girl who probably doesn't know a goalie from Carson Daly picked the logo of an NHL team? Sheesh.

Hope it endures as well as the inspiration Lamar Hunt's daughter's toy gave him.

(She was playing with a super ball, which he then turned into Super Bowl.)

Funny thing about the colors...

Back in 1993, when Anaheim unveiled the colors and logo, they were originally listed as "Burgundy, Teal and Silver". So, all of this merchandise started hitting the shelves in what looked like Washington Redskins Burgundy. Then, there was a correction - the colors were actually supposed to be "Purple, Jade and Silver"...as if there's a huge difference between Teal and Jade...then new stuff came out with the CORRECT colors...

Anyway, me being the obsessive complulsive type when it somes to colors, I called the marketing dept. for the Ducks and spoke for about 15 or 20 minutes with a very nice guy who explained what had happened: the owners announced the colors as Burgundy, Teal and Silver - misinterpreting the actual intended colors. So, a lot of the stuff went out incorrectly - I assume most of the incorrect merchandise was unlicensed, since there shouldn't have been a problem if they were using the Pantone colors - as they should have been.

This marketing guy told me that the Purple they chose was a very unique color, and that if you were going to attempt to match it in a paint store or something, you might call it "Eggplant". So, that's what I've always called it. Even though it's not REALLY official. Officially, it's Mighty Ducks of Anaheim Purple. I'm pretty much responsible for it being called Eggplant - I've had it on my Team Color Lists that way (although I just recently stopped calling it that), and I think that you'd never really see it listed that way on any official documents.

I'm going to miss that color...it's a great color that's not being used by anyone else and set them apart from everyone else...

Side note: the Ducks actually modified it slightly between the 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 seasons...see if you can see the very slight difference:
