IronChefShark
Canada learned the hard way.....as this is as true in everyday life as it is in baseball.....NEVER UNDERESTIMATE MEXICANS! I just got home from the Sharks game and saw the final score, and just started to laugh! The Aztec Warriors came through and thanks to them, USA will have a chance to advance as well. oh, and you want an anthem?I got your anthem right here! Seadragon76
The Americans won 17-0 and to me, this game should of never mattered because the USA should of already been eliminated. Why?Mexico beat Canada, which gives Mexico first in Group B (AKA the Phoenix/Scottsdale Group). Then, it comes down to the US and Canada and the Canadians won that game, therefore knocking the US to third place and out of the tourny.I think the only reason that the U.S. is in the 2nd Round is so Selig and his moronic cronies don't look stupid for creating this event and having the USA not reach the second round. None taken.I knew that someone was going to mention that. While the theory itself looks rather filmsy on paper, you have to know that each team went 1-1 against the other two. That doesn't exactly help in a tie breaker situation. There has to be a way to break the tie. I thought of one. When Mexico beat Canada yesterday, the Mexicans won the group because it was played before the Americans played their game with South Africa. Head-to-head, you know. With the Americans win today, it should of knocked them out because of the head-to-head loss against Canada. Instead, they drop a 17 spot on South Africa and Canada is forced to go home? That doesn't make sense when Canada beat the U.S. just two days ago. See Red
That... doesn't really make sense. In your little thing, why is the Mexico win over Canada more important than the US win over Mexico? It also wouldn't make sense for the US to get sent home since they beat Mexico in their opening game with how you put it. Jigga
Weren't all of the tie-breakers decided BEFORE the tourney started? Team USA is in the second round. Deal. So just because the Mexico and Canada played their third game before the US played theirs, means they should count that as head to head? The more logical tiebreaker would be just taking the World Cup tiebreakers (for earned runs/9 innings)...Run Difference, then Runs for, then Run Difference in all games, then Runs for. Seadragon76
Well, at least I tried to come up with a conspiracy theory. Granted, it's a very lame one, but it's a theory. One that got shot down when yh mentioned that the U.S. beat Mexico to start their group. But, I guess there's part of me feeling that Canada got hosed in all of this. Oh, well. I'll move on and so is the tourny, I guess.
Stampman
Hey, it was fun while it lasted...No shame in going 2-1 and only losing out in the tie breaker...(I'd like to see them need tie breaker #5-"Drawing of lots, conducted by WBCI.")(I'm not making that up--scroll to the bootom of the page.)
