The World Basketball Championship, the Davis Cup, Ryder Cup, Iraq: Every day there's further proof that we, as a nation, are not very good at international competition.

2006 will certainly go down as "The Year of Bad Logo and Uniform Design.

-Buffalo Sabres

-Anaheim Ducks

-Arizona Diamondbacks

-Milwaukee Bucks

-Minnesota Vikings

Not sure if budgets have been sliced or if the process (timelines) are bing condensed to the

breaking point but something is amiss and hoepfully 2007 will be a much better asthetic year.

Looking at how the letter "a" is centered, does anyone else think it may say, "D-backs" or "DBacks" or something similar?

I think you may be right... ^_^

The Sabres blew it.

But the Ducks really look pretty sharp. Sure I wish there was green. And sure I wish they had the D on their jersey instead of the wordmark. But otherwise, it's sharp, and I think the D as the crest will come sooner or later.

I think as a whole the D'backs look sharp.

The Bucks look great. While they could have been more creative with the logo, it looks good and they fixed a lot of the problems.

The Vikings made a lot of good updates. The uniforms are just alright, but as a whole they didn't majorly disappoint.

I kinda dig the Ducks new look. Like the the separation from the "Disney Corp."

The "DBACKS" change is gonna be sweet.

A bit of partiality, See City/State to your left... The Bucks turned out Great! Granted a "brand spanking new logo" would've been preferred by me. The update and tying in the identities is very well done.

I can assure you that most of O'Grady's list is "stuff I wish I made but didn't, so now I'm bitter."

Even the Sabres aren't terrible. I think the problem there is that the jersey template was designed for the new jerseys and that the logo would be fine on a football helmet, but doesn't work with a hockey template. Then again, I still hate the concept of a team named the Sabres using a bison in the logo. I get it... they play in Buffalo...

Ducks are outstanding, as are the Bucks and the Vikings. Dbacks are a nice change, and the Reds are pure perfection.

--The Diamondbacks change was needed. I am looking forward to the new unis and from we've seen here on this forum, they will be nice. My only concern is I dislike the "D-Backs" thing. They are the Diamondbacks and shouldn't use a slang nickname.

--The Bucks? I saw them last week when they played the Pistons. I like the red/green color combo. The uniform is a bit "shiny" though. Overall, better than before.

-The Sabres. The home blues are better than the road whites, but I can't get the "Buffaslug" thing out of my head and someone online (ESPN?) mentioned that it looks like Barney Rubble's toupee'. LOL. Its growing on me though. However, they wore the throwbacks the other night. Perfect. They should stay with those all the time and get a white version of it while they are at it.

--Vikings. Why is it the purple just doesn't look purple to me? Its more like a freaked out blue. Overall, not a bad redesign, but the side stripes on the pants are terrible.

Diamondbacks to reveal new look

Wednesday launch set for updated uniforms, merchandise

MLB.com

PHOENIX -- Tick, tick, tick...

The wait is almost over.

On Wednesday night, the D-backs will unveil their new uniforms, which will include a change in colors from purple, teal and copper to Sedona red, Sonoran sand and black.

And fans will get their first look at the new uniforms right here on diamondbacks.com as we display the uniforms and deck the site out in the new colors.

Merchandise with the new look will be available online that night and beginning on Thursday at Valley Team Shop stores.

"We plan on having a good amount available the next day, Nov. 9," team president Derrick Hall told fans during a recent online chat. "As we get closer to Spring Training, more merchandise will hit the market and the shelves."

While Hall remains tightlipped about the changes, he has met with some fans that raised objections to the new look and gave them a sneak peek at the uniforms.

"The response was overwhelmingly positive," he said. "People are really going to like it."

Back in 1998, when the team began play, it received feedback from various media outlets that the color purple is a difficult one to match up when it comes to graphics, logos and photos with the purple coming out looking either blue or black. Purple also was a challenging color to match up from a merchandising standpoint.

In an effort to continue the tradition of making the colors representative of the state, the team chose to call its shade of red "Sedona red" due to its similarity to the famous red rocks in Arizona's northern town of Sedona.

Also, for continuity sake, the team's "A" logo will not change much, though, the secondary "D" logo will receive an update and be more modern looking.

This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of purple in baseball. It's only a matter of time before the Rockies undergo a complete overhaul.
