"Okay, so here is the latest update on where things are going with the NHL jersey of the future. I will only claim this to be rumor and speculation, and do not claim to have heard this from any legitimate source - so read into this whatever you want!

The NHL will introduce a new authentic (and replica) jersey for next season (2007-2008)

The new NHL authentic jersey will be a form-fitting jersey (somewhat along the lines of the Swift jersey)

The new NHL authentic jersey will NOT be worn tucked in as previously speculated

The new NHL authentic jersey will use modern technology to decrease weight and minimize drag - by games end, it will weigh on average 4 lbs less than the current authentic jersey when taking into account water absorption throughout the game

The new NHL authentic jersey will NOT have new striping/colors and designs for any team. All teams will carry over their current designs for next season

The new NHL authentic jersey will enable players to wear a smaller size (and tighter fit), while providing more freedom of movement

The new NHL authentic jersey is well supported by the players

So, to summarize, the NHL will be improving the technology and fit of the authentic jersey to allow players to be faster, lighter and more mobile, allowing them to perform to the maximum of their capabilities as elite athletes.

As for the replica jersey, there will be a few changes there too:

The current replica jersey will be available only in one color for each team (a dark jersey)

A new replica jersey will be introduced, with a lower value offering than the current replica jersey. The key change will be the elimination of shoulder crests, and downgrading of the chest crest from embroidered twill crest, to a screen print on sewn patch crest."

I have also heard that prices for the authentic jersey could range upwards of $400 to $600 because of the cost of material, but that is unofficial

For $600 a jersey, I expect a seat on the team's bench and a lap dance from each of the players wives thrown in. :hockeysmiley:

He wasn't specifically referring to the form-fitting jerseys in the first comment, just newer design in general. I think he's talking about current jerseys, not future ones.

He specifically refers to the new streamlined jerseys debuting at the All Star game in the second comment. It's plain as day.

Yeah I realize that. Sorry I wasn't more clear. I think the first comment might be referring to current designs, and the second referring to form-fitting ones. Either way, it's clear he's got the right idea about this whole thing.

Sorry man, but that's all old news. Plus, it's still speculation.

I just hope I can get an authentic before next season. Can anyone help me decide whether to get Forsberg or Richards? If Foppa ends up on another team, I'd get Richards. But then again, the kid's still young and he might sucking and end up somewhere else too. What's the safe bet?

Apparently according to Toronto sports radio, the new jerseys will be brought out at a presser on Wednesday.

At least people will have the opportunity to buy all-star jerseys before the game itself..... not that I'd want one of these ones.

From NBC Sports which has much more credibility than Hockeybuzz.com, the players apparently hate these new uniforms and they are probably going to be a disaster.

No offense jkrdevil, but once again let me reiterate that Andy Strickland is not "just" a hockeybuzz.com contributor, but is also a radio sports DJ on ESPN 1380 in St. Louis and has been a reporter for Blues hockey for quite awhile. He is trustworthy.

I don't know if I should admit this or not, but I'm really geeked up about this reveal Wednesday!

Me too, I'm really curious to see what it's all going to look like, especially as a Leaf fan, since we're getting a new logo too!

Hey, on this board of all places, there should be zero embarassment about being psyched over a uniform reveal!

I wonder if the players will actually wear the new team jerseys at the skills competition and the Young Stars game (to go along with the new All Star jerseys). Seems a natural showcase for such an event.

One would do well to interview players from the World Juniors or the NCAA about how they've accustomed to the tighter fitting jerseys after having played in them for a while.

Eww. Even I can tell it looks too tight from here.

What was the NHL thinking when they let RBK take over? Dick Pound got it wrong. It's not the players who are taking drugs, it's the league!

You used a picture of a player in a Nike uniform to rant against Reebok. Reebok didn't come up with the idea of tighter-fitting uniforms. Reebok is just running (or skating) with the ideas that Nike designed.

Count me as one who is eagerly anticipating the unveiling. IMO this could be a great thing, and it is a shame it has been bashed so much before anyone has even seen anything.

(that being said, I reserve the right to bitch and complain if they do look as bad as most of you have already determined that they will.)

I don't think the NHL let them take over per say. Reebok bought out The Hockey Company (CCM, KOHO, Jofa among others) who already had the contract with the league.

Point taken.

But the Hockey Company was just fine.

jpslapshot22, the Nike Swifts are the closest thing I can compare the RBK's to as of this moment, but in no means do I want them to look like those.
