And I believe that I'd like to put my NAKA team in Philadelphia. Especially since there are sections of the cities that can be considered cities themselves that are well over 75,000.

Teehee. You're funny.

If we reserve a city now, would we have to submit our team name at the same time, or can we hold off on that?

Just city names are needed for the reservation. Team names can be revealed with your concept.

Mexico is part of North America...

(Greenland too.)

Re: This and your other comment, it's kind of how Toronto has a team in the NBA... you could submit Mexico City and I could make a case decision. Otherwise, for logistics, we will start with just the U.S. and Canada.

Hey, that's great.

I still have dibs on Philly. We're a kickball town.

Is there any way to whittle down the 1.5 million? That is their urban area alone... I would love to have Philly, of course, and will make a case decision on it, but if you can narrow it down at all, that would be great.

Also, the size of the city should be irrelevant, considering teams are marketed towards... well markets. For example, Pittsburgh is relatively tiny, at just over 300k population, however it's metro area is a little over 2 million. Now look at cities in the west and south, where the "city" boundaries extend into what we in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic would consider to be suburbs. You have metro areas that are much closer in size to the city populations. Metro area is really the driver here, and is what should be used if there are going to be any restrictions.

I wanted to create an atmosphere where smaller markets could compete and New Yorkers wouldn't barge in and demand the world based on their population... I imagined something more like the Little League World Series where the biggest cities aren't necessarily the most prominent. I'll consider all city suggestions, but the guidelines also stipulate cities, so metro areas would not be counted. That's the way I see it, anyway.

i'm gonna squat cary, nc...just in case i have time to do this...

for clarification...can region names be used (ie: Triangle) or is it strictly a one-city deal?

You can reserve the city, but the city name does not have to be in the team name. Like if we were doing the NFL, you could reserve Boston and then make them the New England Patriots. The city is just where it will allegedly be hosted.

Also...

Front page has been updated with teams. Let me know if I missed ya.

I'll jump in with Reno, Nevada.

The ever so obvious Reno 911!

I gots Boston, though I was this close to taking Honolulu just because you neglected poor Hawai'i on the logo map.

Don't worry, we'll play the All-Star Game in Hawaii. B)

Good idea, I think this will be a good contest. I am going to go ahead and reserve Phoenix. Thanks.

I'm trying to cap city populations at 1 mil. Is there a specific region of Phoenix or some other city that you would prefer? I hear Scottsdale is lovely this time of year.

And in a couple minutes, I'll post the new applicants and new regions. Would folks here like the list to be limited to a certain number? That is, voting will be "top three" format, so if we let it grow, you might be just one of 30... I don't have a problem with it if the applicants don't.
