IceCap
Was at Miller Park tonight, and it looks like when the Brewers do their '90s throwback, they will be wearing the 1997-99 uniforms. There was a whole rack of new Majestic authentic jerseys in that style in one of the team stores. Perhaps a bit worrisome is that the matching hat was nowhere to be found - but all of the stores were selling the 1994-96 road hat - the interlocking MB with the green brim. They were just American Needle replicas, though, so hopefully there's not too much to read into that. The 90s set would work for me as full-time uniforms if they dumped the boring primary that went with it and used the rarely seen Wisconsin state alternate that went with that set as the primary mark.Funny - I wrote to the Brewers in 1998 saying just that. It's a nice set, it's just strange how one little detail can make it or break it for me. I wouldn't read anything into the Brewers selling the "MB" caps - New Era has been offering them for a while. The MB hats, great in theory, not so much in actuality. I saw that patch on a jacket at the park Monday night, and was reminded of how fantastic it looked. Put that on the jersey sleeve instead of the MB with crossed bats, and that sucker is perfection. Gothamite
Here's the version I worked up for the site:It never made the uniforms, though it was featured on the 1997-1999 jackets and the team's first BP cap. More interesting then the crossed bats/MB mark, and just enough of a barley reference as a nod to the team name. That uniform set, once they simplified the cap logo, was one sleeve patch change away from perfection. The_Admiral
Perhaps you could say it was "just barley enough to get by."It looks nice enough, but it's still kinda eh to associate the entire state with the Brewers, recognizable as the Wisconsin outline may be. The ball-in-glove is good enough for me. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
