hecticbro
I just saw the pictures from the Wings' preseason opener against Philly and noticed that the players' names on the back of the jerseys aren't arced like they normally are. Is this permanent or some weird preseason thing?http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Site=C4&Date=20090916&Category=SPORTS05&ArtNo=909160805&Ref=PH&Params=Itemnr=

Geoff
Do we need to pull up the CCSLC dictionary for everyone to read again and learn that this happens every year? Athletic Director: KTU Blue Grassers Football
Steve-O
Hahaha, I love how this happens every season. It is one of the signs that the regular season is right around the corner!

hecticbro
I probably notice this every season then forget. Why do they do it? Is it really that complicated to arc the letters?
charger77
I am buessing they dont want to wast the time to make up a ton of jerseys for players that will wind up in G.R. or less next year.-Dan PotD May 11th, 2011looooooogodud: June 7th 2010 - July 5th 2012
wildwing64
I probably notice this every season then forget. Why do they do it? Is it really that complicated to arc the letters?Arced letters are, presumably, more expensive. There's no point in spending all that money on arced letters if some of the players aren't even going to be around for the regular season. BBTV
In most cases, arced letters are direct sewn, whereas the cheap nameplates can be simply removed once the player gets cut. There's no point in spending all that money on arced letters if some of the players aren't even going to be around for the regular season.More expensive and much harder to do, since the longer your name and the different letters your name has all are somewhat different. If my name starts with "A" and it's 4 letters long it's a much different A than if my name were 8-9 letters long and the "A" was in the middle... Jezus_Ghoti
I don't want to do it, but it would be so awesome if someone would go back and find out how many years in a row this exact thread has come up. We have to have a streak or at least 4 or 5 years going, if not longer.

ebod39
As soon as I saw the post title I knew what it was about, yet I still clicked on it.It's an annual landmark of the passage of time, like the leaves changing colors, the sun going down a little sooner andsomeone asking about the Red Wings straight name font. ZapRowsdower8
I, for one, hope this thread continues to pop up every year. It's a sure sign that hockey season is just around the corner. It's very Swallows of Capistrano-esque.
oddball
Can we just have a Flash animation on the front page every September that says, the Detroit Red Wings do not arc the player names in preseason. Is this possible?
