The Blue Jackets are 10-2-1 against the Eastern Conference this year. I should be pleased by that, but it only makes it more maddening that we have to deal with the Western Conference.

I made a similar comment while watching the game. My girlfriend didn't get it. Psh, girls.

The Blue Jackets suck, so suspending Umberger is of no great strategic advantage to my favorite team. In fact, because Drew Doughty is a star player for a team that threatens my favorite team, I do not pity the victim in the least.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

First time the Flames lose back to back games in well over two months. 11 Games left probably need to win 8 of those. Good news the Flames play 7 of those against teams below them in the standings. Bad news we only have 11 games left though it's not like one team will have 3 games left well another has 0.

I hate the Western Conference so much right now.

NHL network showing interesting show about expansion

More expansion for the NHL. No thanks. Not enough talent.

Care to elaborate?

I don't think I need to expand upon it greatly, but there's just not enough talent for another, say, 2 teams. Look at some third and fourth line players on teams, and the majority of AHL teams - it's a crapshoot.

This seemingly always happens though...

2009-10: 8-7-3

2008-09: 13-3-2

2007-08: 6-3-1

The last 4 years (counting this year), the CBJ are 37-15-7 against the Eastern Conference. God damnit, can the Islanders, Thrashers, or Panthers move to KC or Winnipeg? :P

BREAKING NEWS: Former French Connection member Rick Martin passes away

Rick Martin, one-third of the most fabled line in Buffalo Sabres history, died today of a heart attack. He was 59.

Martin reportedly had a heart attack while driving in Clarence, a law enforcement officer said on the condition of anonymity.

Martin became etched in local lore as the high-scoring winger on the "French Connection," skating alongside Gilbert Perreault and Rene Robert as the infant Sabres captured the area's attention.

And to think he was standing on the HSBC Arena ice surface with his linemates helping welcome Terry Pegula as the new Sabres owner... and 2 and a half weeks later, he's no longer with us.

R.I.P., Rick Martin, and may you find peace on the great hockey rink in the sky.

That was a really hard Blackhawks road trip to watch. Lucky to come away with 2 points as flat as they were.

The Flames are screwed. Why? Because they have the fewest games remaining and they have they are tied with the Rangers for most shootout wins with 8. If you don't understand, a team with lesser shootout wins gets the tiebreak advantage over the team with more shootout wins. Now that's not saying the Kings are in a good position with 7. So this year, the standings fans see in the papers and online every day aren't actually the standings used to seed the playoffs. OTGDNHL.

If you saw today's Blackhawks-Capitals game, and watched the Hawks stand idly in their own zone for the last 15 seoncds of regulation, you saw the most perfect example possible of what's wrong with the league's current standings system. There's no motivation for a team to play for a regulation win if they're tied in the last few minutes of the third. Just take your foot off the gas and coast along, because the other team's going to do the same, because everyone would rather be guaranteed to notch one point rather than risk playing for zero. And if the game comes down to the coin flip, er, Plinko board, I mean, shootout, then all the better for no one to take the blame.

Just adopt the 3-point IIHF system already, if you're so insistent on keeping the shootout. The last few minutes of a tie game coming down the home stretch of a season should be thrilling action, not a rest period. Short of that, I hope there's at least a longer overtime period in the league next year, be it the 4-on-4/3-on-3 split that was tested, or a longer 4-on-4 period. The shootouts need to become more of a last resort and less of an inevitability.

Oh I know about the shootout tiebreak rules. Just didn't want to think about it until becomes a reality.

I don't like the IIHF system and I don't like the split 4 on 4/3 on 3 as 3 on 3 is absolutely horrible hockey! I saw it this year and it was pathetic to see as there was too much ice out there. Extending the 4 on 4 isn't going to do anything at all as it's just more time on the clock and the same play, so that won't change anything. The only thing that will work if you want to keep the point system is to give 2 points to the winner and none to the loser in ALL situations, whether it be regulation, overtime, or shootout.
