Still MIGHTY

Recommended Posts

Was at the game tonight. Brutal effort by the Senators, but still had fun booing Heatley.

That's what y'all get for hatin'!

You wouldn't hate on someone who demanded a trade, then denied a trade, then demanded he go to a specific team, but waited to get a 4 million dollar bonus, then headed out?

...and after that all we got were 2 scrubs from San Jose.

Yeah that's what we get for hating on a player for demanding a trade after signing a 7-year deal.

I'm sure you would be perfectly fine with that.

Hi, how are you?

Welp, the Thrashers finally lost for the first time after naming Andrew Ladd captain, 6-game win streak is toast. Beat some pretty good teams (Caps & Red Wings just to name a few) & got in front of the Pens tonight...but man, Crosby is on absolute fire right now. It's crazy. He's playing out of his mind right now, even for his standards.

It's been stated the Snyder's family has forgiven Heatley or something along those lines. So that would just have taken it way to far.

So what! You could build a thousand bridges, save ten families from fire, cure cancer and kill one person. With all the good stuff you did, you still killed someone.

To put it into perspective, Craig McTavish killed someone drunk driving by running over them. Dany Heatley killing a teammate, who was a passenger, then you looked for safe haven with another team to "start over", THEN said he want's to be traded makes him look like a snake.

Ottawa bias aside, I'm pissed at the team for the pour play on the ice, but happy about the crowd. It's the first time I've heard Senators fans in SBP louder than a cricket.

They were taking a lot of spills out there.

Well, luckily Heatley's return made a big splash with Ottawa's fans.

Can it get any worse for the Devils?

This is depressing...

Yeah, no. It's not depressing at all. You're finally getting your losing season. Try having a franchise that's never won a playoff game, and has never been in a playoff race other than that year.

I'll trade you the Stanley Cups for this year's Blue Jackets team thank you very much.

BJ's need to right the ship soon. Detroit's lighting it up and Chicago looks to be close to awakening, 0-3-1 in their last 4. Hopefully it's Columbus that will end Crosby's reign of terror.

Tonight's game was the tipping point for me. There isn't a worse fanbase in all of sports than fans from Pittsburgh. You're at a hockey game, leave the terrible towels at home, act like adults, drop the jackassy behavior and stop encouraging it in your kids. You're allowed to be excited for a good game, but buffoonery shouldn't be tolerated let alone encouraged. The Penguins fans at Nationwide embarrassed themselves tonight. The Detroit fans a week ago were a delight compared to the Pittsburgh faithful that showed up tonight.

I have to been to multiple games against the Red Wings and Blackhawks. The Sabres and Maple Leafs also bring in a bunch of fans, but the Pittsburgh Penguins fans were by far the worst most boorish people I've ever seen in a road team's jersey. I'm swear I'm not just saying that because I happen to have a personal vendetta against that particular city. My mom and sister who were also at the game said the same thing and they aren't sports fans at all.

I've long wanted the Blue Jackets to get bumped to the Eastern Conference, but if it means we get invaded by these dimwits more than once a year then I'm going to rethink that desire.

I'm not going to challenge the fact that there were probably some really annoying Pittsburgh fans there, you'll get that when 2/3 of the crowd are cheering for the visitors, but please don't make blanket statements about entire fan bases. My family has had Pens season tickets for over 20 years and I got to know some really intelligent, interesting fans. I think what we have going on is a bit of the "pink hat" effect that teams like the Red Sox have also experienced. I wouldn't call these people bandwagoners per se, as they always followed the team to a certain extent, but during the good times they become more vocal and don't know how to act at away games.

I haven't lived in Pittsburgh for about 4 years now and due to my wife's aversion to cold weather I probably won't be moving back anytime soon, but I love that town. I try to act as an ambassador when talking to fans at their home stadiums and I know other Pittsburgh fans do the same, unfortunately people likes to focus on that 5% of Steelers fans that wear Zoobas, swill I.C. Light like it's going out of style and call everybody "jagoff".

There are awful fans from every fanbase, don't let that form your opinion about an entire town. And if I am ever in Pittsburgh the same time as you I would be happy to take you around and show you the real side of Pittsburgh that I love.

Every fanbase does have its bad apples, but at a certain point I think certain trends do need to be recognized. Bringing a terrible towel to a hockey game? That's not the best way to endear yourselves to the outside sporting world.

As for the 2/3 attack? Come on dude. Unlike some other struggling NHL markets I think most of us want to see Columbus succeed. Unlike Phoenix Columbus fans actually seem to care.

It was about 50/50, maybe 60/40 they were just more vocal because they had more to cheer for. BTW.

I've been to Pittsburgh, I know it's a cool place, but I'm just saying I've never had a more unpleasant experience with visiting fans at Nationwide. I really am trying to avoid making a blanket statement there (and perhaps I shouldn't have said "there isn't a worse fanbase in all of sports" but that was anger talking from last night) and talk specifically about what I witnessed in-arena last night and what other fans have told me about their experiences from last night. From everything I saw and heard was that the Penguins fans there last night were the worst visiting fans anyone has ever had to deal with. That comes from a friend of mine who works at R-Bar and a few of the people I know who work in the team store. I'm not making this stuff up just because I hate the Steelers.

My theory is that what we saw were a lot of Penguins fans who don't live in the Pittsburgh area getting their one chance of the year to see the Penguins. They only get to see them once a year so when they do they over-compensate and behave in a completely disrespectful manner, drink too much, act with the utmost buffoonery, and behave like general imbeciles. We'll call it the "transplanted fan" phenomenon.

In ten years of going to Blue Jackets games that was easily the worst game I've ever been to. Only about half of that was because of the absurd amount of Penguins fans. We got blown out on home ice, while outnumbered by visiting fans, while playing with literally zero heart. It sucked and I'd like to deliver one of these (holds fist) to the faces of Steve Mason and even though he didn't play last night, Anton Stralman.

McCarthy, you make a good point about the Pens fans that live in Columbus, you can see the same thing happen anytime the Yankees are playing down here in Tampa Bay. Easily some of the most annoying fans I have ever come across, but my visits to Yankee Stadium have been nothing but pleasant. Transplanted Fan Phenomenon - I like it.

Ice Cap - My "2/3" comment wasn't meant as an attack, it literally looked like that on the highlights. (If it was 50/50 or 60/40 I feel like I was close enough) The Columbus arena district is nice, I like the town (from the little time I spent there) and do hope that the market is succesful. I have nothing but good things to say about Columbus, their home and away jerseys are easily one of my favorite sets. (Had to get some uni talk in)

The Terrible Towel. As a Pittsburgh fan, I have no problem with it being associated with all Pittsburgh sports so long as people aren't waving them during action or hitting those around them. If they were, there is no excuse and an usher should have dealt with them. So yeah, I can totally see how it would be annoying for other fans. However, 100% of the profits from the towel benefit a special needs school, so the more they sell the better IMO.

I, too, was at that game last night. Please don't include all of us in one group. As we were leaving my brother and I were lamenting our fellow fans on the inside. As I loudly put it "Why cant we just shut up!?" I felt the same animosity towards my fellow fans as I did towards Canadiens or Leafs fans after they win in Pittsburgh. Or towards most Steelers fans.

I respect you guys for still being a hell of a place to see a game. All three times I've gone so far, the respectfulness and friendliness of the employees and fans I've come across has been great. Consol is a great place to see a game, and as objectively as I can look at it I think it's better than Nationwide, but it's really really close. Theres something about you guys...

By the way: The Sky Terrace, definitely not a bad place to see a game.
