Doesn't matter. We'll just see more of this:

Lee isn't pitching in that video.

RAJ, you crazy crazy man. I'm giddy right now.

It ain't just RAJ. Monty and Co. certainly had to sign off on this. I cannot believe this was the team that once claimed that they can't survive as a "small market club", and the same team that JD Drew refused to sign with because he didn't think they'd spend enough to be competitive.

Yeah very true. And exactly, who could've ever predicted back then that this would even be remotely be close to happening.

By not going to the Yankees and their kazillions of dollars, to take less and go back to a place he liked to play for, I definitely think Lee handled his free-agency wonderfully (Didn't go on national television ala LeBron's Decision, or command public attention like James did).

He didn't sell his soul to the pinstriped devil; good for Lee.

Let this be a lesson to Yankees fans. Perhaps they'll think twice next time "Cy Young" brings his wife to the ballyard....

You know it. I think he waited and waited for a better off because deep down he did not want to go to the Bronx.

All I can hope is that Hamels and Oswalt have bad seasons. Otherwise, this is 1970-Orioles territory here.

This is ridiculous because all last year we were asking "what if they still had Cliff Lee?" We then said "well they probably wouldn't have gotten Roy Oswalt", and now they have them all.

Except that it wasn't a better offer. Not even close.

Jesus goddam christ. Never saw this coming. I guess it validates all the posts regarding the text messages he sent saying he wished he could come back to Philadelphia and how he didn't like playing in Texas. I cannot believe they added this type of payroll, and I can't believe that Lee wanted it enough to take so much less (numbers not out yet, but I have to believe he took less years / money.) I also can't believe that (as things stand today, which could change a lot) Roy Oswalt will probably be the odd man out of the division series rotation. I repeat - Jesus goddam christ.

Happy for your Phillies. More importantly, happy he's not playing his home games in New York.

I'm a Braves fan. The Phillies are the pinstriped devil!

Exactly, he had the Yankees money but he waited and delayed for something that came close and was a place he wanted to be. I am willing to bet if his wife was not spit upon he would be in the Interlocking NY as we speak.

I don't think the wife thing had much to do with it (certainly at least a little though.) Dude was down right devastated to get traded away last year, and told everyone that would listen how he wanted to come back. He had a grudge against the FO for a while, but realized that it was because of his reluctance to sign an extension that they had to trade him (not that I would have) and not a personal thing. This is basically the dream rotation we (Phillies fans) thought we had last year - plus Roy Oswalt. I threepeat - Jesus Goddam Mutha Fuggin Christ.

Wow, Philly looks SCARY good now. But they still have some holes on offense IMO. I wouldn't be totally shocked to see them pull a move like dealing Oswalt or Hamels for another bat. Even without one of those guys, this team is beastly.

Over and Under on the Phillies winning 110.5 games this season?

Now that Crawford and Lee are both gone... where do the Yankees go now? Andrian Beltre and hope he can play left field?

It looks like Blanton and possibly Ibanez and Kendrick will be dealt to clear some $$. Blanton was already linked to the Tigers for a potential destination...

Kendrick doesn't make any money, and probably isn't very attractive to many teams. Keep him in AAA or see if he can hack it in the 'pen. Joe Blanton is a fat out-of-shape piece of feces who I hope snaps his femur every time he takes the mound. It was foolish to tender him last season (that move essentially forced their hand with Lee) so I'd get rid of him for anything possible, even if it means eating half of the money. Lord knows Blanton looks like he ate all the money.

Ibanez hasn't been the same since mid '09, and is blocking Domonic Brown as the left handed outfielder in the lineup. I think he's due 10 or 11 M this year - see if someone will take him and throw in 6 M. Use the extra 5 to get someone to either play right, or platoon with Francisco. Or platoon Brown with Francisco and get someone for Left. Whatever - it doesn't matter. Hell - put Oswalt in left.

That wouldn't shock me either. It also wouldn't shock me if they gave Oswalt away for prospects like they did Lee last year. I get the sense though that RAJ was forced into that move last year, and has a big chip on his shoulder now. He just may have convinced the silent partners to go all in.
