I believe it is dumb to entrust the managerial knowledge and tact of Manny Acta to lead your team into the postseason....

He was golden earlier in the season but I'd be obliged to agree right now. He's making all of the wrong moves.

I want to say that Acta was more of a "Fool's Gold" with the Nationals, as he was able to inspire his players to perform better in the latter half of the 2007 Season (the Nats had a record of 37-37 after the All-Star Break, but they finished with a 73-89 record). However, I cannot recall any other positiveness from his coaching tenure here.

You stay classy Philadelphia.

Yes, nothing quite says classy like throwing at the opposition because they're getting their :censored: pushed in by the better team.

Really. I'm not sure what the problem is here. If anything, the Giants' catcher who went low on Polanco is the "classless" one in all of this. Even taking off the red-colored glasses, I don't see any way to take a shot at the Phillies in all of this unless you're a butthurt Braves or Giants fan.

Started by the Giants, no doubt. Not sure what Whiteside was doing, but something must've spooked him about Polanco's approach I guess. Either way, the Giants know how to get in Philly's kitchen and I absolutely love it. If the Giants can pull their heads out and fend off Arizona I think it sets up well for another post season series that could be an absolute slug fest.

Yea because Victorino jumping back into the pile to go after the pitcher was completely fine right BBTV? Polanco had no business running up on Whiteside in the first place. The catcher was doing what he should have been doing until he was ran up on like that. Victorino wasn't being thrown at. That pitcher couldn't find the plate way before he even stepped into the batters box. As usual, you are thinking like a Philly fan and not a baseball fan.

How can you objectively look at that pitch and say it wasnt intentional? And you want to talk about other people being homers...The fact is, the Giants are getting taken to the woodshed by the superior team on their own field, and their joke of a pitcher was frustrated. Sorry to burst your bubble, but its midnight, your cute little flash in the pan fairy tale is over. The miracle season is no more, 2010 is as much in the past as 2008. See you in the playoffs if you can fend off the juggernaut that is the Diamondbacks lol

Ok everybody just relax. Fact is the Giants and Phillies hate each other. I for one can't stand anything about the Phillies or their city, and I'd assume most Phillies fans share a lot of the same feelings towards the Giants. These type of high intensity rivalries are what baseball is all about. As Bruce Bochy said last night, it's all part of the game.

As for the Giants being a Cinderella flash-in-the-pan or whatever it is, you gotta remember they've been as strong of a team as they have been with the most anemic offense in the league. They're competitive because their pitching staff is nails. Just look at their head-to-head matchups in the last two seasons, it's not like the Phillies have absolutely dominated the Giants, in fact other than the last two the Giants have actually had the upper hand. Champions on paper doesn't mean anything, even when you do try to become the NL's version Of the Yankees. If the Giants can hold on, despite the injuries and constant lineup shifts they've had this season, Philly better watch their backs. When the Giants staff is focused and on point, they're tough to beat.

To wonder when its okay to accept that its okay to jump off a sinking ship? Well CHockey is still hopeful for second place I guess.

Because only flakes don't stick with their team?

There are still 50 games left. To accredit 1st place to the Tigers as of now is just as dumb as most Indians fans were when they were 30-15.

If I could offer some advice. Just ignore them man, it's not worth it really.

The Tribe is alright and there are still plenty of games left. It was Ubaldo's first start and with all of the mental aspects factoring in, I'm pleased with it and he still put us in a position to win. The game was lost by the bullpen. I don't think Carmona can get us a win tonight, so chances are we might fall back to 5 games. But we still have 3-4? series left against Detroit that will make or break the season. On paper we are a much better team, only time will tell if this young team will be able to overcome the injuries. As far as Manny Acta goes, he is a great manager. We're keeping faith! It's not called Believeland for nothing

I don't think the Tribe are better on paper. I'll take M. Cabrera over Laporta, Guillen over Kipnis, Peralta over A. Cabrera, Betemit over Chisenhall, Avila over Santana, Martinez over Hafner, Verlander over Jimenez and so on. The only thing that would keep them out of the playoffs, is the bullpen. (and of course, Brad Penny)

okay keep telling yourself that...

I'll let my team do the talking in a few days

All I'm saying is that the only advantage the Indians have over the Tigers is their bullpen. Not biased, it's the truth. I don't see the Tribe making a run this year unless the bats seriously heat up to compete with the Tigers.

Ugh. At least we didn't lose on a dropped ball.

Let's try this again

Carmona pitches tonight. Prepare your collective anuses, Texas.

More like, fans in the outfield, prep for home run balls.

You can't possibly think Peralta's better than Cabrera. As well as Avila over Santana. The dude's pounding the ball.

But in general, you're right. The Tigers are a mediocre ballclub and the Tribe are still a bad team. While I hope the Tribe can pull it out, they won't. Chris Perez doesn't have a save in the last three weeks, and the bullpen's given up 3 walk-offs in four games. The Tigers'll win by default.

Even this guy has a point. Detroit fans forget that Peralta lost the starting SS position to Cabrera.

Considering he was going after Sandoval who appeared to have sucker punched someone from behind and grabbed someone else by the neck (a coach maybe? not sure, but it didn't look like a player) I think it's fine. He was calm until Sandoval did that. Either way, the dude was intentionally thrown at. Regardless of what team you play for, losing your cool is completely understandable. Victorino's problem was that he "half stepped". You either go right for the pitcher, or you go right to first base. You don't take three steps then say "I had no intention of starting anything", because nobody else knows what's in your head and sh1t's just going to go down.

Seriously dude. I get that you hate the Phillies and all, but you really need to watch the whole thing again. Victorino shouldn't have stepped toward the mound (as stated, either charge or do nothing), but the Giants pitcher and catcher were really the problem there. Even a Giants fan has agreed with this.

Replacement-player hypotheticals don't tell you anything. How much better is Mark DeRosa than a sentient jelly donut that learned to play baseball? I don't know, there aren't any baked goods playing in the majors.

he's 3.4 wins above donut

Peralta and Cabrera are around the same power numbers, but Peralta is overall a better contact hitter. Also, Prealta has half the number of errors. Also, I wouldn't call the Tigers mediocre.

I think using a pure "win" scenario is flawed, because a win is a very fluid thing, so in that aspect, it's kind of silly, but when comparing two players, or two selections of players, it's still probably the best comparison as far as taking everything into account... sure as :censored: better than things like batting average.

That being said, even to the basest of base surface stats, the Tigers rape the Indians statistically.

Indians 4-2 against tigger this year. How's that for a stat?

Delerious stupor strikes again. 6 games is not any kind of sample and says absolutely nothing. Wow. You are really :censored:ing terrible at this.

It's not over yet but this ballpark just oozes errors doesn't it?

What really gets me is the "great fan" stuff. It's sad to think of our country as a "Steeler Nation", because that would mean that we're a country of near-sighted inbreds from the mountains that can't speak competent English.

Let's go Brownies!

yeah I'm going to spend my whole Saturday looking up stats and arguing with a person named bruschimania with a stupid avatar

gotta love tigger fans

I think he's a rangers fan. I like the Rangers though; was cheering for Ron Washington against the Yanks.

The Indians better shape the :censored: up before Detroit.
