2011NCAA Football Thread

I have not read a single posting in this thread so it may have been covered...

I live in Michigan and the U of M fans are celebrating with a hint of sexual delight the downfall of OSU and the departure of Tressel and Pryor.

My question to U of M fans is: How does the debacle at OSU make U of M a better football team (not better than OSU per se but just a better as a whole)

It's nothing to do with a team being better or not. It's just rivalry. You can bet UNC would be partying for a week straight if the NCAA slapped Duke with stiff penalties and I've said my schtick before about all the times ASU's gotten in trouble with the NCAA.

Actually people here in Michigan are saying this virtually guarantees a Big 10 title and Rose Bowl birth for this season.

Ok, those people are worse than me in terms of homerism, then.

Yeah they are horrible here. Most U of M fans don't seem to realize that the team has only won 1/2 of a National Title over the last 60 years.

I'm a huge Michigan fan, I think it has more to do with OSU getting hit with penalties. Will it make Michigan better? No they still have work to do. Will Michigan beat OSU maybe, but we never know because the season hasn't started yet. We'll know when gametime happens.

Do you always have to have some kind of retort to everything I say? Get off my back.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

I haven't been following all of the Pryor situation. Couldn't he enroll at another school or is this a complete NCAA ban?

The NCAA has nothing to do with whether Terrelle Pryor plays this year at the present time. He saw the writing on the wall and decided to leave OSU. Now, he could go for the supplemental NFL draft, or he could try his luck with another school if they're willing to take him.

Yeah I guess that's what he was saying as he won't sign in the CFL he's going to try the Supplemental Draft.

Where have you been hearing that...? I have not heard anyone say anything close to resembling that. Even the most optimistic Michigan fans I know are saying 9-3, which is far from a lock from a B10 title. The Big Ten will be tough this year. Nebraska looks good, Sparty has some nice talent, and Wisconsin looks solid with the addition of Russell Wilson at QB from NC State.

Michigan won't be as bad as some people think. Denard Robinson is the first starting QB returning for the following season since Chad Henne. They're returning 19/22 starters on offense and defense. They won't be running Greg Robinson's clown defense. It actually appears they have a somewhat competent coaching staff. Right now I'm torn between 7-5 and 8-4, depending on how quickly Denard takes to the new offense. If he can take another major step like he did last year, I can see Michigan over-achieving and reaching 9-3. But personally, I think the beginning of the year will be really ugly from the offensive side of things... possibly even being blown out by Notre Dame.

"He went on to say that "most" of Pryor's wrongdoing is limited to the selling of memorabilia "when he was a freshman, 18 or 19 years old at a time".

*Ohio State's entire compliance department just :censored: themselves*

/You're not helping.

//Last 3 OSU seasons are so getting retconned.

I'm thinking more and more a one year institutional TV and postseason ban is the way to go here.

They deserve a TV ban. They aren't going to get one because the rest of the Big Ten would kind of like their games against OSU televised.

Former HS Rugby player from England commits to Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech may have gotten one of the state?s biggest steals of the year with Monday?s commitment of Francis Kallon, who is a native of London, England.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive end from Central Gwinnett is an overnight sensation in recruiting circles after deciding to take up the sport of football two months ago. He picked Georgia Tech among a dozen early scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Vanderbilt, North Carolina State, Duke, Virginia, Syracuse and Maryland.

?In talking with many college coaches, it?s like this ? Francis is everything you?re looking for in a defensive end. He?s a little over 6-5, and has arms that go to the ground. He?s 245 pounds and it?s a lean 245. He has the frame to be 270 or 275 very quickly. And he can run. With his rugby and soccer background, he has naturally good feet and an aggressive style of play.

?With not playing football before, several coaches said that it could actually be a big advantage because he hasn?t picked up any bad habits. He hasn?t learned how to loaf and he hasn?t learned how to take plays off. He only knows one speed right now, and that?s full speed. They think they can redshirt him for a year, mold him and teach him the game, and that he could end up being very special.?

HE JUST TOOK UP FOOTBALL THIS PAST SPRING. WTF. This is gonna be incredibly interesting to watch.

^ THAT...is freaking awesome. I love seeing stories like that. We've seen similar stories to this before, most notably in the number of NFL tight ends who were once basketball players. We've also seen some DLs who were relatively new to the game upon entering college really stand out--Tamba Hali of the Chiefs is one example. But this one here bears watching, just to see how this guy develops...because if this becomes successful, you better believe college scouting & recruiting staffs all over the country will start mining rugby players from wherever they can get them...however they can get them.

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

As a former rugby player this doesn't surprise me at all. A lot of my team mates were football players who played rugby during the off season because it kept their conditioning up and as well helped them to strengthen their tackling skills. We as well had a bunch of guys who hadn't played football before who joined after rugby season and went on to receive big scholarships in football to some pretty big schools. Our rugby team was always in contention and the football team went to a few California JC title games while I was there, and both coaches loved each other because they felt that they helped each other out tremendously.

:censored: CLIFF HARRIS

Knowing Oregon, we probably have some guy that's better on our third string. We've had something like this happen three years in a row (Blount, Masoli, now possibly Harris). We'll manage.

Why you make fun of me? I make concept for Auburn champions and you make fun of me. I cry tears.
Chopping off the dicks of Filipino boys and embracing causes that promote bigotry =/= strong moral character.
