Nike Pro Combat NFL in 2012

I think its safe to say that any Seahawk change made by Nike will NOT be royal blue and kelly green. Not nearly "cool and cutting edge" enough for Nike. Plus, the navy and super bright green they currently flirt with is close to one of Nike's pet color schemes, anyway. Nike wouldn't miss a chance to imposing their corporate stamp on an NFL team, especially one so close to home.

Putting them back in an old look? Not Nike's style.

This is precisely what I am hoping for, I mean they need to add some striping to the uniform but I hope they keep the blue color scheme with the lime green secondary.

I'll be sincerely disappointed if the Lions don't go with a chrome helmet a'la Oregon's Rose Bowl headgear. If ever a franchise needed to incorporate chrome, it's the one in the Motor City.

Anyone have an idea on when Nike will announce anything? After the Super Bowl, probably?

I doubt we'll see a single announcement from Nike. We'll probably see a steady unveiling of the new designs over the course of the off-season. In some cases teams may not even make an announcement due to the Nike uniforms being no different (design wise) from their previous uniforms. Kind of like what the Devils did (or didn't do) when the Reebok Edge hockey sweaters were released.

:puke:

Look, I love the Ducks, and I love the Lions. But please, god, no. Never.

I agree. I'm guessing teams like the Raiders and Colts will just see a simple visual swap from the Reebok logo to the Nike Swoosh logo.

Who said there's anything to announce?

Isn't this whole "Pro Combat" thing just a uniform system? Like lightweight materials and integrated pads? I didn't think these crazy designs had anything to with what "Pro Combat" other than an excuse to change a teams look.

Virginia Tech looks good in pretty much everything they wear. The UCLA stripes look great with their color scheme, they just need to get stripes on the maroon helmet and wear the striped pants all the time.

Michigan, on the other hand, looks the worst they have all season. The maize/blue striped shoulders might be my favorite uniforms in the country. I think it would be great if they wore that on the road full-time with the normal maize pants. Those jerseys with Virginia Tech's look would probably make this the best looking bowl game.

Uni-Watch today stated Nike takes over on April 1st. Under "Collector's Corner": http://www.uni-watch.com/

Thank you. 'Pro Combat' is underwear with pads in it. Nike didn't invent it. Heck, they don't even make the best version of that product, in my opinion. The 'Pro Combat' uniforms are nothing but a way to create extra buzz for a specific set of undergarments that Nike sells. It's a marketing initiative to supplement the commercials, billboards and P.O.P. displays. Nike is good at marketing, and they're convincing schools that they have the schools' best interests at the forefront (think of all the buzz and exposure your football team will get!), so they're getting what they want, how they want it, and until someone stands up to them and proves that you can do it more successfully a different way, Nike will continue to do it their way.

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

Who said there's anything to announce?

Considering how big of a deal Reebok made when they were originally awarded the NFL contract, and then later the NHL contract, I'd be stunned if they didn't.

What did rbk do when awarded the NFL? Most of the Nike, Puma, adidas, etc cuts and looks stayed the same. Other than the equip patch and announcing "hey we make all the nfl stuff now, yo!" I don't recall anything.

Yes, however they've had a say in redesigns ever since, and they've outfitted players on teams who haven't changed looks like the Giants and Colts in Reebok's ugly super-stretchy materials.

Say what you want about the marketing and branding aspect of all the special jerseys that the Nike colleges churn out, especially for bowl season, but they always contain the top-of-the-line in Nike materials & jersey cuts. Obviously I don't know how better it is to play in from the athlete point of view, but aesthetically I've been impressed on how better they honor the design of the jersey. Far better than whatever crap Joseph Addai has worn the past few seasons.

Personally I'll be looking forward to the day when Nike takes over, cause that's when all the current Reebok gear goes on sale. :)

I see New Era and 47 Brand will be doing the NFL hats. Both do a fine job, but not looking forward to the plethora of wide brimmed, high topped, crazy NFL-designed, 5950s that we'll be seeing next year.

Right, and I would expect it to remain pretty much the same. Short of new materials, there's no reason to expect a Edge-style league-wide overhaul, nor anything worthy of an "announcement". Some teams will probably use Nike's design team like some did Reebok's, but they still work with Properties and answer to the teams / league. We know of one or two teams that are changing, but there's no reason (right now, anyway) to think that it's a case of Nike just coming in and changing them, or that they simply felt like changing and it happens to be the same year Nike is getting the license.
