2012 MLB Season

Triple Crown is nice, but it's an arbitrary collection of stats. What Trout's doing this season is much rarer than anyone winning the TC. His home run and stolen base total has only been matched twice before. His defense is better. His baserunning is better. He hits for power and average batting leadoff.

He is the better player.

Heartbreaking ending for the Dodgers, but it was a matter of too little, too late. Maybe now during the offseason, the entire team chemistry can mold for what could be a magical 2013. Thanks guys.

I bet Marc Ellis will get death threats for his blunder of a steal attempt.

I find it amusing that the Cubs basically took a year off and still had a more beneficial season than the White Sox. Got some young players to test their mettle, broke in a new manager in a no-pressure situation, and "earned" a high draft pick. The Sox flubbed away yet another "win now" season, missed the playoffs, and now have to dismantle.

WAR?

Are you kidding me

Home Runs RBI and hits win games WAR is fought in Afghanistan

Home runs, RBI, and Hits win games because they lead to runs. Runs win games. Trout has scored more runs than Cabrera.

Runs.

I tweet & tumble.

The Triple Crown is unique and has not been done in 45 years, Mike Trout is a great player and deserves the Rookie of the Year and I am sure there will be MVP awards to come, but Cabrera is the MVP and it will be highway robbery if he does not get it plus the Tigers won the Central and it was due to Miguel Cabrera having a monster last few weeks.

typical scrubs fan bs, young players? did you see how many rookie pitchers we used?

first place for the majority of the season when nobody gave us a chance with a rookie manager

we will still get a decent draft pick

this was NOT a win now season and we may have a slighty different look but there will not be any dismantle

KW got rid off some salary and picked up Youk,Liriano, and Myers for scraps and do not have to bring them back if they don't want to.

Reds Thoughts:

Well at least the Cardinals and their fans didn't get to celebrate the play-in berth at the expense of the Reds.

This probably goes without saying, but I will be an Atlanta Braves fan for the play-in game.

Haven't decided if I want the Reds to get the 1 seed or the 2 seed yet. If they have to go to San Francisco then my playoff rotation is Mat Latos-Homer Bailey-Johnny Cueto-Bronson Arroyo (if the Reds have a lead in the series. If not they should go back to Latos on short rest). Reasoning: Latos has historically been really good in his career at At&t Park and has been the best Reds starter for the last two months, Homer Bailey would be an all-star if he never had to pitch at GABP so I throw him on the road. I like the idea of throwing Cueto if the chance for a sweep at home is there or if they need someone for a big start in a pivotal game or to, god-forbid, avoid getting swept again. It's a nice safety net.

However, I think Dusty Baker's going with Cueto-Arroyo-Latos-Bailey as the rotation, which I only kind of get.

Thoughts around baseball:

If two teams tie for the division and have both clinched the postseason, how do they decide who wins the division? Divisional One game playoff?

How cool are the Oakland A's and how cool is it that the division will come down to the last game of the season and how cool is it that those two teams happen to be playing each other? Answer: very. I will be pulling for the A's to win today because I don't want to have to choose between Baltimore or Oakland in the play-in game. Both teams have excellent stories that I don't want to end. Also, I want either a Reds-A's or Reds-Orioles world series.

and because I'm still bitter, it's time for the annual "Teams That Have More Wins Than the 2006 Cardinals" list: Reds, Nationals, Giants, Braves, Cardinals, Dodgers, *Brewers, Yankees, Rangers, Athletics, Orioles, Angels, Rays, Tigers, White Sox.

Typical White Sox fan, reverting to tacky name-calling and can barely use grammar/punctuation.

edit: forget it. I'm not going to waste any more time on this. Crawl back into your hole and go back to lurking.

Sometimes there really are 2 extremely good candidates for an award. In those situations, the one that does not get the award was not robbed.

We all have our opinion on which way we'd sway, but there's no black and white here. The award could justifiably go to either one.

I mean yeah. There are some years where one player clearly is more deserving then another. I thought Pedro being far and away the best pitcher in the American League on a winning team should have won him the award in both '99 and 2000 over Rodriguez and Giambi respectively. I don't know how Justin Morneau won the award in '06 when he wasn't even the best position player on his own team. But this is not one of those years.

You just lost 101 games. I know you guys are desperately telling yourselves "you have to lose games to win later", but that isn't always the case. Maybe the Rays turned their franchise around with 10 years of top draft picks, but the Pirates are still waiting. LOL to broke in their new manager. Svuem is a buffoon and all indications are he will be fired before the team is ready to compete. Him getting a year of experience meant nothing.

Nothing says the White Sox should or are going to "dismantle". Maybe you missed the pair of 23 year-olds in the rotation who dominated this year. The team lost its opening day starter in June, and he had pitched injured and poorly before that. They also got a year of experience for Dayan Viciedo and found out that Alejandro DeAza is a really good leadoff hitter. They found a handful of very good young releivers, and a few minor league starters stepped up to be in consideration for rotation spots next year. Sale and Quintana wore down in the last month of the season due to throwing way more innings than ever before. The team stayed in first place almost the entire year despite that, despite Danks going down, and despite Paul Konerko being a .260 singles hitter since June due to bone spurs popping up in his wrist. Nobody is going to pencil the Sox in for 100 wins next year, but it's asinine to think the team's going to be blown up. But hey, "we lost 100 games and are still better than you LOLZ!!!1!" Whatever you've got to tell yourself.

Hey, at least White Sox fans have seen a World Series victory in their lifetimes. Step it up, Cubs. :P

Dear God I hate sabemetrics so much, it is ruining the sport. What makes baseball special is any slob can understand the stats and numbers its easilly calcuable and brings fathers and sons together as they keep a scorebook and stats like RBI, average, Home Runs you know the big three the historic three the most imporntant stats in the game since 1869. Take the WAR, RZR and UZR and place them in a septic tank and keep the DRS in the hospital.

I just lost a lot of respect for you Tank. That is one of the stupidest posts I've read on this board.

Time to raise a banner in my lifetime boys!

BTW, Trout deserves the AL MVP. His wOBA is very close to Cabrera's, but he creates more runs for his team. Defensively, there's NO comparison between Trout and Cabrera. Trout is much better, and the stats prove it: up there with Ichiro in UZR, 1st in DRS in the AL, an excellent .942 RZR.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but do you think those buffoons who vote for these awards take into account wOBA, UZR, DRS, and RZR? I doubt some (many?) don't even know what they mean.
