I find it amusing that most of the people in this thread that are trying to "define" New Orleans or choose an identity that "screams" New Orleans...

...aren't from New Orleans.

> Implying that only people from a town can ever know what that town is about.

I don't think that's what Chawls is implying at all. I can't speak for him, but what I think he's getting at is that non-residents tend to stereotype other locations.

How is what people have posted about names for a New Orleans team a stereotype of what the city is? Are the Saints a stereotype of New Orleans? I don't understand.

I was making a general statement. Ask a random person in the mall today what their first thought is when they think of Seattle. I'm willing to bet it will be "rainy". That is stereotyping. Yes, we get a lot of rain due to our geographical location, but there are also beautiful days here. I think the jester logo above is a stereotype of New Orleans and Chrawls has a valid point. Not sure why you felt the need to make a d*ck reply back to him. But I'll let him defend himself.

I think of a long-haired hippie playing a guitar while drinking coffee. In the rain.

And my point is proven, thank you.

The Seattle Storm is owned by locals. Tell me again about stereotyping by outsiders...

I don't see how my post was a "d*ck reply". My point was simply that stating that only people who live in a particular town are qualified to comment on what a team's brand should be is ludicrous. There would be a lot less discussion on this board if that were the case.

To the point of the jester logo and "stereotyping" New Orleans...Is New Orleans not generally regarded as a party town? Is it inaccurate that NOLA bases a significant chunk of its economy off Mardi Gras and the general "Laissez les bon temps roulez" image that it has across the country? I'm not sure how you can "stereotype" a town when the representation is based on actual fact...

Because when I think of New Orleans, the first thing I think of is a demonic sex offender imp.

Actually, that fits the city perfectly during Mardi Gras.

Oh please. Really? That's a ridiculously outdated image of Seattle.

Everyone knows he'd be smoking a doobie. :D

That name has been attached to too many cities. Just kill it.

If it happends, the nickname history will look like this:

Charlotte, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, New Orleans (again), and Charlotte (again)?

That does not seem like too much for anyone?

For clarification, they were officially named New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets for those two years.

At least the name is being returned to it's rightful city. However, if New Orleans does ditch the Hornets name, I'll miss this logo:

You'll miss that logo??

Awwww I'm so sorry

::sarcasm::

Signed,

Former Charlotte Hornets die hard

PS- the names coming back where it belongs and should have never left. Even George shinn came out today and say hell do what he can to help make I happen...so sorry go pelicans? Ha

You may eventually get the name back, but i doubt you'll get the old logo and colours. Unless some sort of "history, and branding" trade/buy out happen.

Wow, this just got derailed. My apologizes for seeing what Chrawls meant. Moving on.

Though you spelled my name wrong  , I appreciate you defending my hono(u)r nonetheless. That's very chivalrous of you. :P

They've got to bring back Hugo! Without Hugo it's not the Charlotte Hornets. But, I could see them do a Jazz-type recoloring with a deep navy blue with teal.
