He should forfeit any Coach of the Year talk just for that blunder. Also, lol at Giguere getting Patrick Royed.He tried reverse psychology before the game, saying that the Blackhawks were going to win the Central this season no matter what. Instead, his team went out and proved his point for him. For the Blues to not only get Kevin Shattenkirk but also Chris Stewart for him is highway damn robbery. They didn't deserve to get a ham sandwich for that stiff. As for the Hawks being a dynasty in the making, no, don't call them that; that's what I call the Kings to make fun of everyone who decided no one else could ever win another Stanley Cup again. As terrific as their offense is, their goaltending is still well below the rest of the league's top teams. Raanta is basically an automatic two goals against every night, so that's brought the numbers down a little bit, but they're still the only team in that upper echelon with more than 2.5 against per game. Also, they haven't beaten St. Louis yet, and they haven't beaten Anaheim in years. So that's gotta happen before I start feeling pretty good about a repeat. But if they turn a corner and show they can handle those two teams, welp. Let's just sit and look at this goal. I know it's so hockey-cliché to say about the guy with a hat trick, "oh ho ho, his best goal of the night was the one he didn't score," but seriously, he took the puck off a guy's stick on a breakaway and sent it down the ice for an opposing breakaway. I know they're leading the league, but Anaheim has a game in hand so that doesn't count. They probably won't even win their next game by five goals. But could you argue that the Ducks did just that in some sense, winning a championship in Getzlaf/Perry's second season and then getting bounced early or missing the playoffs thereafter, when they were both older and better? The Six Posted December 28, 2013 Share Posted December 28, 2013 Yeah that wasn't Getzlaf/Perry's team yet. That team's window closed in '09. You can look at '10-'12 as transition seasons with Getzlaf growing into the captain role, and he's definitely ready to win now. I think it makes sense with the Phillies. The concept is that the team won a chip, and then got considerably better after that. You could say the Halladay Phillies were better than the team that beat the Devil Rays. Kramerica Industries Posted December 28, 2013 Share Posted December 28, 2013 The 2009 team was better than 2008 (add Cliff Lee to the mix), then 2010 was better than 2009 (swap out Lee with Doc, add Oswalt), and THEN 2011 was better than 2010 (re-add Lee to all of that).The fact that the Phillies had progressively worse playoffs despite having better teams just goes to show that baseball is weird as hell.
