2014 NFL Offseason

Adam Silver's going to win that come February 1 just because he doesn't have a whole bunch of stains on his resume'. Hell, David Stern might get my vote even now still, but maybe only because I don't follow the NBA as closely to see the extent of his stainings. Between Goodell, Selig, and Bettman? OH GOD

Well, Stern in fact in his first 25 years really kind of built the NBA to what it was today, granted his first draft class was '84, but he still really built the league to immense popularity in the '90's that was up there with the NFL and MLB. But the last 5 years have really gone downhill for him, and I'm kind of glad he's leaving the league.

Wow nobody wants to be the head coach of the Browns. Not that I blame them.

Told you guys earlier. Gase is the heir apparent in Denver. This is Foxy's final game as an NFL head coach.

Honestly, I don't believe this. There's been absolutely zero about this, you're the only person I've heard even mention it, so forgive me if I don't take some random person's word on the internet.

it's all over Denver sports radio. Big Al is the one stirring the pot and he and Elway are still close from their SB teams.

Fox has been coaching since his 20's. He is now in his 60's and just had a near death experience. It makes sense, and Big Al isn't the kind of person to just blow smoke for attention.

I wouldn't be shocked if Fox hangs up the headset if the Broncos win two weeks from now. He had a pretty serious heart-related problem this season, and he still lives in Charlotte, apparently, which isn't exactly a town away from Denver. Not saying it will happen, but nothing would surprise me there.

However, people who speculate on Peyton, well, I disagree. Champ is retiring one way or another, because his credentials are already established and, more importantly, his body just isn't holding up anymore. However, win or lose, if Peyton's neck gets clearance, I would be shocked if he retired. Really, I'd think winning on Sunday would just provide more incentive to comeback. He would have a chance to match Brady and basically do the Elway route in retiring by winning two Super Bowls to finish is career. I can't see him leaving unless he just isn't given medical clearance.

I honestly don't think Champ retires either way. I think if they keep the team intact for the most part, he comes back next season with something to prove. After he only played a handful of games this season, and having such a poor game against Baltimore in the 2012 playoff game after his 2012 season was very good.

His health issues this season all stemmed from a foot injury. I think he comes back with a chip on his shoulder, unless he gets hurt in the Super Bowl or something like that.

The Lions coaching hires are going to either succeed wildly or crash in a fiery pile. I do have some hope that the respective coordinators they're hiring we're position coaches in areas if consider shaky at best for this team:

Teryl Austin: Ravens secondary coach the past 2 years.

Joe Lombardi: Saints QB coach since 2009.

The fact that both guys had amazing talent to work with is making me uneasy, as their success may not have come from actually coaching. Who knows. Glad they've gone off the map with these hires though.

I could see them going 1-15 next season with their only win coming vs Tampa if that happens.

Am I the only one who thinks the Browns should've hired somebody who is offensive-minded? They have a pretty good defense, but a horrendous offense. It seems to me that they believe the saying "defense wins championships" and think they don't need an offense. I'm not a fan of the Browns, but I do feel sorry for them and the franchise in general. Hopefully they get someone other than Blake Bortles* at QB in the draft.

*- Haven't seen enough of Bortles to be convinced that he even deserves a Top-10 spot in the draft.

I'm guessing the list of candidates the Browns had to choose from wasn't that deep. This Pettine guy seemed like the best of a shallow list actually willing to take the job.

The only reason to take the job is because it's one of just 32 in the world, but the deck is so stacked against you that it's almost impossible to succeed there and after the way they've treated their recent head coaches it's easy to see why it's not a desirable position.

Hell, they couldn't even get Josh "Horrible Head Coach in Denver and Cleveland area Native" McDaniels to interview for the job.

Why do I see the Browns ignoring the QB position in the draft because of Brian Hoyer's flashes of competency, followed by the Browns placing too much faith in Hoyer and him eventually pulling an Anderson 2.0?

The guy had 1 good game and people are acting like he's a future hall of famer. Personally, I wasn't impressed at all.

I definitely think a QB is at play with the 4th pick. But showing the franchise's track record it will be a boring "reach" pick like Bortles or Carr.

Your favorite NFL team has had between 8 and 42 player arrests since 2000

It's not an entirely fair list; Corey McIntyre's arrest with the Bills is listed even though I know that ended up being a complete case of mistaken identity, but that's probably the "fat because of a glandular disorder" exception.

Yawn. ArrestNation did their work with breakdowns by sport and in terms of the population, the numbers are low.

Statistics are one thing, but I certainly wouldn't have guessed that the Vikings averaged three player arrests each year since 2000.
Would you say the same thing if, say three actors with contracts with Paramount were arrested annually? Sport is entertainment, not the myth which has lasted for nearly a decade since writers covered up the issues of Babe Ruth and Bill Tilden.

I would say the same thing about any legal business with roughly 70 employees that had three of them arrested annually.

Looks like NBC's going to acquire the Thursday Night Football package. If so it really makes me wonder if the NFL Network's cost would drop dramatically. A lot of subscribers only have that network to see TNF.

If NBC gets Thursday Night Football, ABC should get Sunday Night Football. I miss their broadcasts

The NBC broadcast team essentially is the old ABC team. When ESPN and ABC Sports merged, a lot of the ABC guys were turfed out. NBC wisely picked up the old MNF team for its SNF package.
