I think its about time a sports league comes to Vegas just the problem is the NHL is it the right team.

No, Frank. The Bunny Ranch is in Dayton, Nevada, which is just east of Carson City.

So the Leafs unveiled the first phase of "Legends Row", a monument featuring bronze statues of their all-time greats. From left to right, Darryl Sittler, Ted Kennedy, Johnny Bower:

Oh good, now that that pindick from Los Angeles is gone, the Maple Leafs are again allowed to acknowledge that they had really good players once.

That's a neat idea. I liked the idea of having them all together in one place as opposed to separate statues.

Perhaps when I finally visit Toronto I'll see the complete strucutre.

Since it's a bench, how long until the Reimer statue goes up?

Rule 76 – Face-offs

To curb delay tactics on face-offs after icing infractions, in situations where the defending team is guilty of a face-off violation, following an icing, the defending player who is initially lined up for the face-off will be given a warning, but will be required to remain in the circle to take the face-off. A second face-off violation by the defending team in such situation will result in a two minute minor bench penalty.

The NHL weaseled out. It was supposed to be that icing the puck already put one faceoff violation against you such that one false start would be a delay of game penalty. All this does is keep you from swapping centers. That discourages neither icing nor intentional time-buying faceoff violations. Say the Hawks ice the puck with Jonathan Toews, one of the best faceoff men in the league, on the ice. I could have him stall (being a good captain!) and still have a very good chance at winning the second draw. If you want to curb delay tactics -- which includes the initial icing -- then you need to limit the guilty team to one draw before a penalty.

I kind of remember that and then the season came and went without much of anything. Looks like they are "compromising" between that and keeping it the way it was last season. However, I was always under the impression that a referee could call a Delay of Game penalty at his discretion, of which I would hope would include on Face-offs following Icing calls.

Also, does this new altered rule include Goalies, and their equipment problems that seem to arise more often after an Icing? :)

Well this keeps them from putting in, I don't know, Saad in the faceoff to get intentionally thrown out, skate around for a bit, have a conversation with Toews about the plan if they win the faceoff, wait for Toews to finish skating in and then have the faceoff. Not a lot of teeth in the rule and only saves a second or five but it's better than nothing.

I suppose, but why settle for less when you can significantly curtail not only icing but pre-draw silliness? The NHL can really distinguish itself as the game that moves while football and baseball continue to grind to a halt.

I'm sad to see the spin-o-rama go. I think it's possible to do it legally (with the puck moving constantly forward), but the refs really blew some calls where the shooter stopped, waited, and then shot.

or just eliminate the shoot out all together.

What was so bad about ties?

I say play Five minute overtime 4 on 4 than 3 on 3 if it is still tied, that game ends in a tie.

It's un-American! But personally, I have no problem with ties at all.
