Not really. You just find yourself agonizing over more specific things. It's sort of like Maslow's hierarchy of needs except you never get to self-actualization.

I couldn't handle the whining should the Sharks leave the Bay Area. It would tear the universe apart. Hell, even moving to San Francisco (which they should totally do once the Warriors complete their stadium) would probably be met by upturned noses from The NHL's Best Fans™

Also apparently, the Sharks signed former Islander Michael Haley this summer to a 2 way deal. This is the guy who is known for going to the other end to fight the Penguins goalie during the infamous brawl 3 years ago.

Well apparently Torres is already gonna miss a good chunk of the year, so it looks like the line of Burish-Scott-Brown is gonna happen. Why do I have a feeling of a Vancouver like year for the team where we wind up to trade away the 2 key players for far less then they are worth. Can Sacramento please land a team soon?

I'm not following where this "Best Fans" meme is coming. My Googling yields no fruit. Regardless, you really do become one of the best fans of a franchise if you have to put up with the cavalcade of comedy that is going to be this upcoming season. Good to know they have a purpose.

And for giggles, I'll troll a bit :http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/nhl-logo-rankings-no-2-arizona-coyotes/

Bring back the space coyote, damn it.

It was on the top of their website this spring, which a few of us found St. Louisianly self-congratulatory:

What's it like being a fan of a competent hockey team? Is it nice?

Actually it is. When the only things you worry about are the lack of concession stands and bathrooms in the top level of the arena, it's quite nice. And I know what it's like being on the other side, wondering in late March, who the Kings were going to draft. Now, it's just sit back and watch quality hockey and a competent GM set a team up for a long run.

This popped up on my youtube feed. FIrst epic 1990's ESPN 2 graphics and two, I had to actually go back and look this up because I for the life of me couldn't remember Tampa being a playoff team that year. I knew about Florida that year but Tampa how did that happen in 96?

Is that maybe from 1996-97? I thought it was down to the Lightning and the Whalers for the 8 seed in the East going into the final weekend of the regular season that year, with the survivor getting the Flyers.

Nono, the Lightning made it in 1995-96. They bumped the defending champion Devils out of the #8 seed that season and lost to the Flyers in 6. Then they fell off in 1996-97, finishing 11th in the East, before completely falling apart in 1997-98 (17 wins out of 82 games!).

Okay, then I don't know what the hell I was thinking.

I still think the Phoenix, Arizona Coyotes would be somewhat successful on the level of a Dallas or Raleigh if they played in the center of the city. So much of their problem is that they play in a part of town that is A. far away and B. not a desirable place for to go.

My family, hockey fans from the east coast, live on the southeast side of Phoenix and it’s about 20 minutes for them to get downtown. On a weeknight it’s 60-90 minutes for them to get to Glendale. They’re hockey fans, but because of the ass-ache they never go to Coyotes games. The Suns and Diamondbacks wouldn’t get good attendance if they played in Glendale either. The Cardinals “work” because football only needs to fill 8 dates a year and they play on weekends. They’re the exception.

I say all that to say that if the Las Vegas Gamblers play in the center of the Las Vegas population and they're easily accessible for everyone in the region they would probably do better than the Coyotes playing in Glendale. But I still don't like the idea of a Vegas Big 4 professional sports team.
