It's "old gold" as opposed to Pittsburgh's "athletic gold" or Milwaukee's "metallic gold".

It's not really an "old gold".  Glidden's color swatch for the Brewers is a darker gold than the swatch for the Giants, FWIW.   Colorwerx has long noted the differences in computer graphics and actual metallic threads.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I don't know if the presence in the logo makes a color "official".  I mean, I suppose it technically does...

That's what we're trying to get across. That gold is an official San Fransisco Giants team colour. It's not used prominently, but it's a team colour none-the-less.

I think the rule of thumb is  if they have specific  color values for licensees to use them it's official, whether it's in the style guide or not.

Well, yeah.  I wasn't much arguing you.  It's just that while it's a color that's used by the team and maybe copyrighted by the team, it's just not really a part of their identity or even associated with them outside of manufacturers.  It's like how chicken pox is technically herpes.  I guess what I'm trying to say is...

And while we're talking about colors not really being what they're called, what the heck is the deal with "Forum Blue"?

It's an official colour if it shows up on the primary logo and uniform set.

It's an official color.  Maybe not a primary color, but it is most definitely an official one.

Lol thanks but I was being facetious based on earlier posts about the same question.

Just for reference, this is my authentic Giants jersey. It's not really metallic at all, and is actually more of a tan-ish color. Brass, maybe? I dunno what exactly I would classify it as, but it works really well with the cream IMO

I don't know if the presence in the logo makes a color "official".  I mean, I suppose it technically does, since it's used at an official capacity, but logos tend to include colors that are not anywhere else in the identity.  If you were to ask me to sum up the Giant's color identity, I think I'd come up with cream before gold, and I've known it's there.

And yes, I include the wordmark as a logo.  I don't think the Rockies' silver gets a lot of attention, although admittedly I'm not in a position to be exposed to the Rockies as much as others.

You bring up a good question... Is red a Yankees color... yellow for the Braves... red for the Pirates... gold for the Royals... light blue for the Padres... green for the Orioles... there's quite a few logos that make you question a team's "official colors."

I think the obvious answer would be yes they are official colors but there's gotta be a line drawn when you're, say, wearing your team's colors. Like I don't think it makes sense for a Yankee fan to be decked out in all red on Opening Day and be like "Yeah I'm supporting my Yankees today!" So I think that's how you gotta look at it.

Black and fleshtone are technically Vikings colors because they're in the logo, but black has never been used (unless you count the facemask and cleats) besides merchandise and the fleshtone is never used anywhere ever besides the logo.

I don't always think of every color as "official" either.  Maybe I am technically wrong.  But I do not think of the Steelers as having blue or red as part of their scheme.  Nor green orange, blue and yellow for the Blackhawks.

In the Steelers case, I always assumed the three diamonds in the logo reflected the history of the US Steel logo that "inspired" it but that black and yellow are their colors.

For the Blackhawks, I think it's a bit trickier given the sleeve patch, but again, I think those colros were used in large part to give the feathers color.  And I think of their "team colors" as red and black.

Similarly, as referenced above, I don't think of the Viking logo's skintone.  Nor do I think of black as a color.  It's probably not important what is "official" but I really don't think of blue and red as part of the Steelers.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Arent their horns outlined with black? Also, if your face mask isn't gray, then it's a team color.

I kinda think that's the case even w gray but that's for a different thread.

Those original road jerseys didn't have a sleeve patch. I think that since the new one has a sleeve patch, it makes up for them not having piping.

I definitely remember reading somewhere that the Sox brass wanted the return to red letters on the road with no piping to create consistency with the home jersey.

Didn't think I'd feel this way but the Phillies change is actually an upgrade because you can clearly see the chain stitching on TV now that the letters are thicker. It adds some needed texture and the stitch pattern actually simulates a written script (loops in the Ls, etc).
