Road Gray vs alternates: All-star game

The big boss tweeted this image.  Personanny I prefer the road grays (yes, including the darker shade the Snakes wear).  Notice that only two teams (Junior Curcit that is) don't have an alternate.

Please discuss.

I normally hold the unpopular opinion of preferring colored alternates, but upon seeing this I probably like the gray better for the ASG since it gives the league at least some uniformity.

Gray.   All-Star Game should be white homes against road grays.

And normal caps. Those caps threw off the whole look. If you're going that route, might as well make the uniform different too. Not what I'd pick, but I can't get over it for some reason.

How about what the Triple A All-Star Game did this year and just have a jersey with the leagues name on them.

No baseball is one of the few games where you can get away with everyone having different jerseys as long as they are white vs grey

I say go full rainbow colors versus white.

With other sports, you sort of depend on like-colors to keep track of which team is which. A quarterback might not differentiate between a WR and a DB. Hockey or basketball players might pass to the wrong team.

In baseball, you have a MAXIMUM of four offensive players on the field at once, and it's usually much less. If the defense has trouble remembering who's on the opposing squad, here's a tip: they're the ones wearing batting helmets and running in a circle.

I like White Vs. Gray...makes 'em look like two teams while still distinguishing their "regular" teams from each other.

Honestly? I'd be cool with the "road" team using alts. You get weird issues sometimes (EX: Padres last season) when it's all white vs gray.

Gray. If anything, let the teams wear alternate hats. That will provide some color. I think alternate uniforms should be worn during the HR derby. I know the host team specific jerseys are huge money makers but I think they have run their course.

Should definitely be Gray vs White. I'll miss seeing all the different uniforms together on the field during the game.

What did I miss?  Are they going to start having all players wear the same uniform?

I agree completely on the normal carp part, but disagree completely on all having the same uniform.  The ONLY reason I have any part of the game on my TV is to fast-forward through the broadcast and see the Cincinnati Reds players in uniform.  Take that away, and my interest goes from 20% to 0%.

It is so disappointing to see the 1976 NL All Star photo, which contained nine men wearing the Cincinnati Reds uniform.  Problem is, with the special 1976 caps, you have to look really hard to pick them out.

The bold and italic are contradictory, at least in the eyes of those that matter.

The gray vs. white game looked great...all that was missing was the team hats.

I like your idea of alternate uniforms for the derby.  But if people buy these host-team-themed warmups, they'll continue to produce them.  And I actually kind of like them.  I think showing them in the HR derby works pretty well.

Someone pointed out how something like the Padres sand uniform of the past could ruin the white vs. gray matchup.  Fortunately, at this time, everyone has a gray uniform.  Hopefully that lasts.  And since it's the case now, that made this years game look great.

If MLB ever came to me and said they were going to allow alts and asked for my advice (ha ha), I'd say allow them only for the road teams because 1) everyone will always have a white uniform, Padres or powder blue situations could water down the road team uniformity and 2) Allowing alts on both squads would look like a sandlot game.

Yeah, eff tradition. It's a meaningless exhibition. Have fun with it.

Seeing all the A.L. players in their grey uniforms was a treat for me.  I'd like to see the colored alternates used more sparingly.

Give me color for the road team, white for the home team. And give me different colored alts if a team has more than one and more than one player on the squad. Loved when the A's and mid-'70s Indians did that back in the day.
