MLB Changes 2015

The Giants should stop the "we use black outlined in orange with a gold shadow, no matter what background it's on" nonsense. It looks bad, and it doesn't make their brand stronger. That jersey would look much better if it had orange letters/numbers with a cream outline.

They get it right with the BP jerseys. Personally I'd like to see a black jersey with the SF logo on the chest. Simple but effective. The bold orange SF doesn't need anything else.

However they are offering the Cubs' gray road alt as a "2015" model, so I suppose any hopes of that being a one-year jersey are gone.

I did notice that while browsing what all the teams had available for jerseys. That Cubs gray road is beyond terrible.

That black Mays Giants jersey is nice. I like the orange alt but agree that they are black, and that would make for a better alt. also I'd promote the SF to primary away and retire the current one. it's too long a name to be on a uniform IMO, though I'll concede they did pull it off as well as possible. It's a nice jersey even with the head spoon, but I really like the SF mark and wouldn't mind seeing more of it. Plus I grew up with Will Clark in those so that's how I'm conditioned to think they should look like.

I don't see why the Giants couldn't do a combination of eras of sorts for their uniforms. Keep the current Giants home jersey, make the road alt the primary road jersey, and make black and orange alts with the cursive Giants scripts. It'd be a nice nod to both the New York days and the Candlestick days, and it would keep the current elements they've had since moving to AT&T.

I'm STILL trying to figure out who thought that teeny tiny number on front looked good or was a good idea. It's borderline bizarre.

Then it would be a disjointed mess and not look uniform. The home set looks like a classic baseball uniform, very close to what they wore in New York. The road alt harkens back to a time that doesn't need harkening, and the design is the height of bland '80s doubleknit-ness. I can't say enough how awful those '80s "let's just slap the logo on the chest and combine cuffs and piping" jerseys were. The cursive Giants script is the height of '70s gaudiness. They're really unique looks and shouldn't be combined. While I didn't completely love the way they presented the black jerseys, I think the Giants best look was in 2001.

I'm not really gonna disagree with you here because you're mostly right. But I will say that the one thing I wish the Giants would do better is harken back to their days at Candlestick. Once they moved into AT&T Park, they often times seem to want to act as if they came straight from New York right into the China Basin. Those days at Candlestick, while a little disjointed and not really all that pretty, were very important times to the fan base. Those Giants teams weren't even from the same planet as the team that's playing on the Embarcadero now, and I kinda wish they would pay tribute to that a little bit more. Don't get me wrong, the Giants home uniform is my favorite in all of baseball. But that 70s gaudiness is a part of the history of this team in the city of San Francisco, and it would add to that oddball mentality a lot of people place on the Giants, which I think should be celebrated.

I understand what you are saying. I've said before that Sox fans around my age love the awful beach blanket '80s set, and some even want the Sox to go back to that full-time. It represented our childhood, and also a team which won made the playoffs for the first time for either Chicago team in 24 years. It was nice as a throwback worn every five years or so, but we now have that as a permanent home alternate, and I'd rather it wasn't.

Maybe the Giants could make a '80s or '90s era home throwback alternate. It would be distinguished from their current set as being strictly an alternate, as opposed to an extension of their brand. However, it's still black and orange, so it wouldn't be a huge visual discrepancy as exist with the Sox or Padres wearing alts (or previously the Astros). I just don't like the idea of doing a mishmash brand where the home, road and alts all look different.

Anyone know why Toronto don´t use coolbase jerseys ? seems really weird, could they switch for next season ?

I remember reading something about the blue jay head being too bulky to sew properly onto the thin coolbase fabric.

I would be strongly in favor of the Giants adding a black alternate. It would have to be orange-on-black like the BP jerseys, though; none of this black-on-black garbage.

I don't understand how a patch can be to heavy for coolbase. It's not like the material is paper thin, and it's not going to fall apart if you stitch or glue a patch to it. It seems like players like the coolbase, so it seems kind of like an NFL situation where teams chose their designs over Nike's materials.

Have you seen and felt a cool base jersey? Look at that Jays logo. That's a puff logo crest and it is extremely heavy. it will drag and imagine the potential disasters of a player sliding on infield dirt with that. the regular jersey is thicker and stronger. it makes perfect sense. I'm sure Majestic tried it on a cool base jersey first before the rebrand release and realize that logistically, the cool base route would not be the best way to go about it

Go A's!

I can't tell if you're serious or not. "it will drag"? You mean like one side of his jersey will be pulled towards the ground due to the weight of the patch?

Disasters of a player sliding on dirt? This makes sense if you mean that the method of adherance (sp) to a coolbase jersey is different than that of a doubleknit and the patch would very easily fall off, but do we know that's the case?

I have felt a coolbase jersey. And I know that a coolbase jersey can support the Phillies chain-stitched wordmark, which is NOT stitched through the fabric like the Cardinals, but sewn on to a patch which is then affixed to the jersey. I don't see how this is much different. If you or someone could shed some light on how the patch is actually attached to the jersey, maybe that would explian things better.

From my game-worn jersey:

The white part of the logo is a stiff material, and it's stitched through the fabric along the border (just like the script and numbers). It also appears as though some adhesive is used.

In any event, I remember at the 2012 unveiling that they switched to double-knit at the players' request. I think it was because they didn't like how Coolbase "captured" their sweat, but I know it was about comfort.
