The whole NFC East in general is kind of ass-chapping if you're not a fan of any of the teams. I honestly don't see how "fatigue" can set in for a team that's never won a single Super Bowl. Maybe that's just me. If asked, we'd say Montreal has 24, Toronto has 13, and Detroit has 11 (...I think). We wouldn't say Toronto doesn't have any, and we wouldn't say Detroit only has four. If this was a consistent thing we did across sports, I'd be ok with it. But we only do this with football, probably because the advent of the Super Bowl provides a neat, if totally arbitrary, line f delineation from what preceded it. Frankly, I don't see why NHL counts anything pre-Original 6. I think the idea with Football is that they were 2 entirely separate leagues. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if that title was taken from them. I agree about the pre super bowl championships being discounted, but I also sort of don't care. So I was born in 2004, which resulted in the Patriots beating the Eagles in Jacksonville in Super Bowl 39, and now it is a rematch being played in the Twin Cities, my hometown. It's not like the Broncos don't talk about the Drive or the Fumble just because they followed those up by getting kicked around in the Super Bowl. A great moment like that can stand on its own. I think you can have confidence that your team's going to win, but the second you feel superiority over someone else because your favorite football team is better is the second you need to take a step back. The only thing fans do is buy stuff that keeps the teams from moving or folding. If fans mattered for what happens on the field then the Bills and Browns would have more than zero combined Super Bowls. Fans don't earn arrogance just because they slid out of their mom somewhere that happens to have a successful local sports franchise. None of these players are even from the same place you're from. We're all just people watching other people play a sport. I agree that some fanbases deserve to win more than others because they've endured more tough losses than other fanbases. Bill Simmons loves to bring up how the Pats used to suck, but their run of dominance has been going on for so long that I don't think you should be allowed to use that anymore. It bears repeating that since 2008, all of their major sports franchises have won at least one championship. Bill Simmons used to talk about a 5-year rule of no complaining, but if all four of your teams win, that gets quadrupled. There is no other sports fanbase that wants credit for losing as well as winning like Boston. It's been true ever since the Red Sox World Series win in 2004, and it remains so weird. I like Bill Simmons and I like the Ringer, but their coverage of the Patriots remains so tone-deaf as to what the rest of the sports world is actually thinking. Deadspin's headline of "Patriots return to Super Bowl.
