A letter logo is almost always better than a graphic logo, and football differs from a dearth of letter logos. So the change to the Renegades' helmet from last season was an upgrade. (And the same goes for the Defenders, who also brought in a letter-based helmet logo for this season.)

The Renegades' former helmet logo is better suited to be a sleeve logo.

You really trying to say the D\R logo is an upgrade?

Were there copyright/trademark issues with using the previous logos? Or was everything changed to "refresh" them? I honestly can't remember if that question was asked/answered.

They bought the entire league. Everything. If there were issues with rights, they'd never be able to get away with things like DC, Houston,  St. Louis, etc using the same names or reusing the Guardians or Vipers logos.

It was mostly a refresh with a new 'cutting edge' look where Vince with XFL 2.0 was going more for a 'patriotic hometown feel' to the names/logos after the brash Degeneration X style of XFL 1.0.

Just a few notes. We had heavy thunderstorms last night, so that meant a lot of the displays that would have been outside got taken down or weren't put up at all. The security lines that are normally outside started right at the front entrance to the stadium in case there was any rain storms during that time, with the metal detectors just short of the concourse.

I know we're Military City USA, but it seemed that at every major stoppage, a person was getting promoted, commissioned, or re-enlisted. It took up most of half time as well. Wherever the game is next year, I wouldn't expect that to happen again, even if it's St. Louis. Most of the Renegades fans were good, but we had a small group (7-10 guys) that were making some rather rude cheers that were not appropriate even in impolite company, so to say. As far as the game graphics, they made it easier to read the score than the graphics used during the regular season. I hope next year they let teams use their team colors for graphics instead of silver and black that was used here.

If I remember correctly did the NFL or the Titans sue because of the original Roughnecks logo? Other than that, they could have kept the branding and updated the uniforms. Although I probably would have changed the Guardians to something related to Orlando.

Changed to a logo that still looks pretty Houston Oilery.

Really wish they had kept the silver helmets and their original 2020 set. The Texas state flag helmet they use now ain't it.

Just using that dark silver helmet and a Texas flag stripe like Maryland has used for spring practice is the better way to go than this year's helmets.

I hope they revisit the Houston (and Arlington) helmets for next season.

That flag helmet just looks bad. Like they forgot to paint one half.

Never use a design that's used by one of your test bed colleges.

Me and my friends are obviously in the minority, especially with the opinions around these parts, but we think the Roughnecks helmet is clever and different. We dig it.

I get different. Clever isn't the word I would use, though. I'll throw distracting in there, as it really was a tough visual during games.

It's where I sit.

Agree to disagree, I do indeed find it clever (you don't have to) and nobody I personally know found it distracting or make it hard to watch in any way at all.

I doubt they'll scrap the uniforms after just one season, but the helmets would be an easy redesign as they'll undoubtedly recondition them.  They seriously need to just go back to the original Renegades helmet.

The current Home uniform is nearly perfect:

1468261831.0.jpg

But the Away uniform, without Black, does not look great at all.

renegadesxfl.jpg

They should keep the exact same pant striping from the Home (Light Blue) pants (Black, Red line, Light Blue, Black) and put it on the Away (White) pant, pairing it with Black socks.

I hate the odd shoulder stripes on both; they should probably get rid of them completely and find some other way to use Black on the upper jersey that uses the Red line as a highlight (without doing full-on yoke colorblocking, like the originals).  They could add Black to the collar, for example, keeping the thin Red line on the edge of the collar as the highlight, continuing that theme.

Then, they can just change the coloring of the UA logo, wordmark, and numbering to achieve a balance of Black, Red, and Light Blue for those on the White jersey.  What really bothers me in that 2nd photo above is that the player name is Red, but the team name on the front is Light Blue.  Stupid and unbalanced.

They could probably use a same exact number font, just with Black fill, Red hightlight line inside the number, and a Light Blue outside border and it would end up balanced.

"It's a good start, but you should really ditch the black".

Gotta disagree on that one. I think the black a perfect contrast color with the sky blue and it's unique, especially with minimal red accents.

For me, the Roughnecks helmet is Exhibit A in the argument "just because you can do something doesn't mean you should".
