63Bulldogs63 724 Posted January 14, 2019 I would like to see the NFL go 94 again and teams where throwbacks for the occaision. Even if its a throwback to 94 and with the one helmet rule some teams looking like the teams that half assed the 75th anniversary, I'd still be ok.

Stupidly, I think the NFL has announced they’re going to do the exact opposite and instead of focusing on the league’s history, they’re focusing on the future. I almost half expect to see a bunch of dumbass TATC style uniforms and graphics.

Survival79 2,062 Posted January 14, 2019 Speaking of black, does it bug anyone else that the Chiefs have black in their logo but nowhere else? And can we please get something on the nose bumper?

BrianLion 1,458 Posted January 14, 2019 I mean the Steelers have blue and red in their logo and nowhere else, and that's far more prominent than the black outline the Chiefs have.

I think that would make it look a lot better. I’ve also wondered if they should get helmet stripping to match the jerseys and pants, but maybe that might make the helmet too crowded.
AndrewMLind 2,300 Posted January 14, 2019 I’ve always believed Kansas City should drop the black outline and have a simple, white arrowhead with a red, interlocking KC inside. The only issue with that is the use of the logo on other applications. It’s fine on a red, black or yellow background, but the arrowhead would be non-existent on white. It needs an outline. That said, you’d probably have to have a red or yellow outline (the former disappearing into the helmet and the latter being a much different look than you have now).
63Bulldogs63 724 Posted January 14, 2019 Kc just stick with black outline. I've always felt that black and white are exempt from the team color thing. Seeing as they are each the very opposite side of the spectrum they are fine to you use as outlines , empty space etc...

Love that red face mask. The white always looked weird to me.
Dnice 235 Posted January 15, 2019 It kind of bothers me that coaches have black hats and shirts though, hardly see yellow.
FiddySicks 11,048 Posted January 15, 2019 I've never understood why the Chiefs didn't just make the KC yellow. That seems like a pretty easy solution to that issue.

It’s completely senseless to stick with it when the center example you posted looks every bit as good (and would coordinate fantastically with the typography in their uniform). Tradition or not, it makes little sense to omit one of your main team colors in favor of a non-team color in your most important branding tools. Black has more contrast against white, but less contrast against red, so that’s literally six of one, half dozen of another when compared to gold (sorry, Brandon :-). I also love the look of 60s-era Chiefs garb, which often featured more gold. This one is interesting, as well.

In that case, you’d just reverse it to a red arrowhead with a white monogram. The arrowhead logo doesn’t rely on a specific dark/light relationship to work, which is what makes it a good, versatile mark. Truth be told, I think that would be much better than how they currently handle their logo across different background colors. The logo appears a bit blah on white because it’s 90% white, and they curiously add a white keyline to the arrowhead for dark backgrounds, which are not functionally needed on black or gold, and makes the red background variant different than what’s on their helmet.

I guess I should have been more specific, because I agree that would be the ideal application. I was just keeping their current style guide (which notably makes an exception on the keyline when the logo is specifically used on the helmet) in mind, so that’s my bad for not being clear.
uniguy22 178 Posted January 15, 2019 I don't think the helmet logo needs an update, but you're absolutely right about that blank white helmet bumper. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
