2019 NFL Season: Super Bowl LIV

Recommended Posts

Aaannnd Minshew Mania just got put back on the shelf.  Per Doug Marrone, Nick Foles will be back in the starting spot week 11 vs the Colts. It was fun while it lasted...but at least the Jaguars now have some battle-tested insurance assurance.

EDIT: and now Cam Newton is on IR. (As if we didn't already see that coming.)

I mean, I know they're inconsistent and such, but a/ Dallas did win and b/ they're currently sitting at 5-3 right now. Y'all talking about them like they're the Snatit or something. 😄

Fair point!

But it’s just the expectation for the Cowboys coming into this season was to make a deep playoff run and have a serious shot at the Super Bowl.

And then when accounting for the abundance of talent the Cowboys have on their roster (best Cowboys’ roster in a generation), and with the next stretch of games being the toughest part of their schedule (Min, at Det, at NE, Buf, at Chi and LA Rams), being 5-3 is an utter disappointment while virtually guaranteeing that the Cowboys will be the 4th seed.

They should be 6-2 (arguably 7-1; shouldn’t have lost to the Packers and Jets). Coaches will be fired this offseason if the Cowboys don’t at least make it to the NFC Championship Game.

So knowing that’s the expectation, beating a bad Giants team and starting the season 5-3 is not a significant achievement.

Who's expectations?  Their fans and their goofball owner, who I'm pretty sure has had those same expectations for years now. I'm not sure anyone else is falling on the floor in shock over the cowboys being 5 and 3, which realistically is a pretty strong place for any NFL team to be at the halfway point.

How should they not have lost to the Packers?

And, yes, coaches will be fired.

Cowboys will continue their proud tradition of losing in the 2nd round to the Packers.

49ers will probably join them.

Garrett is going to be fired, UNLESS Dallas wins the Super Bowl.

Miss the playoffs? Fired.

Lose in the 2nd Round? Fired.

Lose in the CCG/SB? Fired.

Then, Jerry's going to back a dump truck full of money on a guy like Harbaugh, or some other big name college coach (that isn't Saban or Dabo), because that's what he does.

And this process will repeat itself in a year or two.

If they wait to fire him until after the championship game it would be the worst mistake of Jerry’s life. By that time all the good coaches would have been taken or got offers else where. The coach they would get wouldn’t have been their first choice and would be at a disadvantage of getting everything ready to build the team and get it ready for the next season.

So it's Super Bowl win or nothing in Jerry's eyes?  Then he's delusional, and might as well fire Garrett now. There's no logical way anybody can look at the current Cowboy's roster and think anything less than a championship constitutes failure. That's crazy. Are they a contender?  Sure.  Should they win the division? Absolutely. But in a talent heavy NFC, with New England waiting on the other side, they're gonna need a ton to go right for them just to make a deep playoff run, realistically. I'm not saying Garrett is a good coach (at all) and that he deserves to keep his job, but to look at this team this year, and say if he doesn't win it all now he deserves to be fired is dopey.

Also, the thought of Harbaugh coaching Dallas makes me giddy with the anticipation of much hilarity... make it happen.

Every time I think of Jason Garrett, I give thanks that he turned down the Ravens job in 2008 . . . and that the "other" Harbaugh got it.

Seeing the York family being handed the Lombardi Trophy would feel weird. I'd be happy for the players but the Yorks, No.

Despite their record, this 49ers team is super fraudulent. No chance they're winning this season.

My dad and I talk about this regularly. One of the sneaky “what if’s” in recent NFL memory imo.

Internal expectations. This roster is good enough to win a championship this season. Especially before the Cowboys pay Dak and have to make some concessions else where on the roster.

I meant that more as that's a loss the Cowboys will regret by the end of the season. The game was very winnable, but due to the Cowboys self-inflicted errors (unforced turnovers, penalties and missed field goals) the game got out of hand quickly. The Packers definitely deserved to win that game.

You perfectly explained why it's such a disappointment to be 5-3 (the bolded emphasized by me). The Cowboys are already 3 games behind 1st-3rd essentially, (8-0 Niners and lost the tiebreakers to the 7-1 Saints and 7-2 Packers), cementing their playoff seeding as the 4th seed*.

To have a realistic opportunity at a Super Bowl run, the Cowboys needed to have a first-round bye. Unless the Niners, Saints and Packers have an average second half of the season, and the Cowboys go on a ridiculous run (highly doubtful considering the upcoming schedule), the Cowboys will be the 4th seed. It's just frustrating as a fan to realize the most likely ending this season for the Cowboys is another divisional round exit.

*-Barring something crazy happening, I think it's fair to say the Cowboys will win the shoddy NFC East.

I disagree the defense is lights out, and the offense it atleast in the top half of the league. They’re is nothing I’ve seen that shows the 9ers can’t hold their own with anyone in the league.

That defense is very good, I agree. I still don’t trust their offense, though.
