It would not be him because he did not say "bro" at all.

But... he did say "bro." It was literally first thing he wrote. I will grant that it can't be Russo because he didn't say "bro" enough times.

That’s true. At a minimum, Vince does bookend bros.

"Bro, hear me out. If the Angels want to take Major League Baseball to the next level ya need a swerve. Personally, bro, I'd have the Angels turn on Anaheim and Los Angeles, bro. They'd never even see it comin'. Ya move east and become the Inland Empire Angels, swerve everybody and just staht prinin' money, bro. We'd be off to da races, bro."

No updates. No new meetings with Long Beach and although Anaheim is in sporadic communication they’re waiting for an appraisal of the stadium land to use as negotiation leverage.

More and more I think they're just going to build a new 40,000-seat park in the existing parking lot and that'll be that.

It makes the most sense from a transportation standpoint. They have a Metrolink station right in the parking lot and a dedicated carpool exit off the 5 that sends you right in.

Yeah, there just aren't a lot of other places to plunk down a park, are there? As a good populist I hate to see parks getting smaller and smaller in terms of seating capacity but that's the way it's going, and I'm guessing even nosebleeds for an Angels game were still a little steep.

As cool as a stadium in downtown Long Beach would be, I have to agree. It just makes too much sense considering how much space they have around there for parking. I'd have to imagine the total cost of building in the parking lot of Angels Stadium vs downtown Long Beach would be a LOT less considering the infrastructure is already there.

Anaheim expects to see the team’s pitch for a new long-term lease within 60 days, and economic consultant Larry Kosmont has been hired to help evaluate it, City Manager Chris Zapata told council members Tuesday, Aug. 13.

That will happen behind closed doors, but more stadium-related issues will be aired in public in coming weeks.

Councilman Jose Moreno has asked for an explanation of the current lease terms and a discussion of provisions council members would like in a deal at upcoming meetings, and he announced two community forums – Aug. 21 and 29 – to answer residents’ questions and hear from the community on a potential new lease with the city’s arguably most prominent tenant.

Moreno surprised some observers at Tuesday’s council meeting by saying a council discussion of the current lease terms is needed because some people, himself included, didn’t understand that the extension granted in January reinstated the original lease through 2029 and simply extended the team’s deadline to opt out through the end of 2019.

Some observers have said the city didn’t ask for enough from the current lease and hope a new deal would include better terms for Anaheim.

The deal was broadly characterized in the media as extending the team’s lease through the end of 2020. Some people took that to mean if there was no new deal by that deadline, the Angels would need a new home and the stadium property would be free and clear for whatever the city chose to do with it, Moreno said.

Went out to San Diego three summers ago and took the Pacific Coastliner up to Anaheim to see our team play the Angels.  Took it up on a Sunday afternoon.  Took it back to SD that afternoon.  One of our best memories.  It was beautiful.  The train literally drops you off under the overpass and you can walk through the parking lot to the stadium.  Would do it all over in a second.  Angels park seems a bit dated in terms of the slope of the seats and the concourse.  The stadium is beautiful, but you can tell the stadium is a late 60s multi-purpose stadium that's been retrofitted and fixed up over time.  It still works.  It just had an older feel to it.

Any stadium that has concourses that aren't completely open is outdated.  I get that it's nearly 30-years old, and I totally get its historical significance, but I couldn't believe how old Camden Yards felt when I was there a few weeks ago, and if Angels Stadium has the same type of arrangement, I'd try to get out of that too.  The fan experience is a million times better in open-air stadiums - not only in the concourses, but having airflow into the stands makes it much less muggy.  Sitting in that stadium was downright uncomfortable.

Part of the process for securing a new stadium is threatening politicians and fans with relocation. Sure enough, commissioner Rob Manfred recently did something close to that, warning Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and City Councilman Larry Reid that the Athletics could take their bats and their gloves and follow the Raiders to Las Vegas if they don't get their way.

Here's part of what Manfred said, per what Reid told the San Francisco Chronicle: "The commissioner pointed out that Bay Area fans will soon be going to Las Vegas to see the Raiders and that unless things changed, Bay Area fans may be going to Las Vegas or elsewhere to see the A's as well."  Schaaf, for her part, corroborated Reid's account on Tuesday, saying, "The reports of that are accurate. That is the city that came out of his mouth."

Frankly, the surprise is that we'll make it to 2020 with 2 teams in the SF Bay Area.

Las Vegas is far from a sure thing, but I have to say I was impressed at how much Knights paraphernalia I saw last time I was out there. I'm sure their insane first year helped, but I was impressed with how much they've embraced that team. It'd be interesting to see if they could support 3 team who moved there pretty much back to back to back.

I don't see it happening, but it would be miserable if it did. Not only is Vegas not even in the top five of cities that would be good fits for an MLB team, but to move such a storied franchise to a city devoid of baseball history would be egregiously bad.
