Let me guess...you've made the "I took the Browns to the Super Bowl this morning" joke at least 50 times in your life, right?

Yeah if you count all those 50 times that I said it when I was 10 years old.

I really don’t think the now demoted normal brown jersey along with the white and orange ones were/are all that bad. A few missteps that could have easily been fixed. Removing “BROWNS” from the pants, shortening the shoulder stripe, cleaning up the number outline.

My point is I don’t believe it’s a good look on a professional sports team to have mismatching home and away uniforms. It’s my opinion. Albeit a VERY unpopular one, but it’s my own honest opinion.

Is anyone else surprised that this is something they were able to announce on the eve of Week 1?

There seem to be two basic possibilities:

1.  The league just approved a request to do this (which would surprise me).

2.  The league approved a request some time ago and they have been able to keep it under wraps until now.

Both strike me as unusual, though for different reasons.

Every time I hear this, all I can think of is the 1970s Vikings with their mismatched home and away uniforms - that both looked fantastic - and know that while it is an opinion, it's a bad one.

It's where I sit.

Long term mismatching uniforms is never a good idea. But for one season? I think this is the best thing they can do right now. The original uniforms might only need a few tweaks, but the new uniforms in 2020 complicates things. Doubt the NFL would let them make tweaks in 2019 and then again in 2020.

There are Minnesota Vikings mismatched uniforms and there are 2000s Minnesota Wild/Ottawa Senators/current L.A. Rams mismatched uniforms.

Cleveland Browns Swap Uniforms, “ColorRush” Now Primary Home Set

September 4, 2019 - 21:05 PM

Yes, the Cleveland Browns are expected to be getting new uniforms in 2020, but while the DawgPound waits patiently for that magical day they’ll at least be treated to the Browns’ far superior “ColorRush” combo. The “ColorRush” uniform will be […]

It's disappointing that the Browns will only wear the colour rush jerseys with the brown pants. Why? Why is it that teams can't get it into their heads that they can wear these things with contrasting pants? Colour Rush as a promotion is dead too. Just pair it with the white pants.

Of course, with the Rams updating their pants while still in uniform limbo, I don’t see why the NFL can’t let the Browns introduce a complimentary white and/or orange pair in the same style as the Color Rush™ pants, if nothing else.

Maybe they will. The NFL said last year that teams could 'mix and match' their Color Rush eyesores with their other uniforms. What surprises me is that the NFL ever approved the regular brown jersey in the first place, with the numbers being so hard to read. In fact, they were harder to read than the 1984 preseason uniforms, and yet some suits in 2015 thought it looked good.

Can they change pant designs if wanted? For instance can they just wear their old white pants with regular stripe?

They can. The Rams introduced new pants minus the old gold in their second season in LA.

Honestly? If they were to pair the Color Rush set with orange socks, I could absolutely live with that as their primary set, monochrome look and all. It's somewhat unique, isn't FULL mono as the helmet and socks would limit it a bit, and frankly, it looks pretty damn good.

It’s not ideal but that wouldn’t be a bad look.

This brings up another question about the Browns’ current Color Rush™ uniforms: Don’t coaches/refs/other players have the same issues reading Orange numbers on Brown as the brown non-Color Rush™ 2015-2019 uniforms, or is that issue due to that uniform being more cluttered in general?

From the waist up, yes, they're an improvement. on what they currently wear. But I'd rather them wear the currently ugly brown jerseys (over white or orange) or all white than having to look at color rush mono garbage 6x. (Especially mono-Brown).

I think some of their marketing speak was that these fly off the shelves, well yea, 1. cause the other alternatives are so bad by comparison, and 2. fans don't buy the pants.

They probably will mix in the orange socks..

I hope they throw away those red socks and get some orange ones, at least.

Part of me feels like the color rush uses the old orange and the socks and helmets are the new "oranger" orange. Would make sense since they were designed before the rebrand.

Orange socks make the uniform look fantastic. It's a great look but I don't think it should be a full time look ever, if anything the Browns should have this be an alternate if they don't want to invest in orange jerseys.

They have orange jerseys. They're not popular with fans.
