2021 NFL Season - Adults Arguing About Matt Stafford

Recommended Posts

Hurts almost got hurt, I don’t blame him for being pissed at the Landover Handegg Club. Dan Snyder makes Smaug look like a typical lottery winner as far as spending money goes when it isn’t trying to build an All-Star team from 5 seasons prior. Or is he intentionally neglecting the stadium so he can get a new one? That’s possible too IMO and if it is, he belongs in prison. Not Club Fed, I mean REAL prison.

... and those vertical bars are far more securely in place in prison.

Apparently if you get covid, you are exempt from testing for 90 days, so there's some conspiracy theorists that believe the Eagles timed their covid breakout to get it over with before the playoffs so that they don't have any surprises along the way and can take advantage of other teams that might get breakouts (which is pretty much the only way they'll win a playoff game.)  I don't think for a minute that it's true because nobody intentionally gives themselves covid, and Jalen Hurts didn't get it (yet), and that's really out of character for their organization, but the thought is at least out there.

So what is the overall opinion of Derek Carr?

I put him in the same conversation as Matthew Stafford (pre-Rams); decent franchise QB, just saddled with a mediocre team year after year. Carr’s career may end up like Phillip Rivers, where he was a pretty good QB, but as someone mentioned on this thread, he never “mattered”.

Slightly Worse Matthew Stafford is about the perfect description for Carr.  Good-to-great QB that can absolutely uncork a deep ball TD when he wants to and put the team on his back if need be, but as you said, cursed with trying to drag a mediocre organization kicking and screaming to relevance.  On the flip side, because he's had such a crappy team and organization around him for so long, it's covered some of his legitimate flaws because everyone just assumes that anything that goes wrong with the Lions/Raiders is never Stafford/Carr's fault (which, to be fair, is usually correct).

Derek Carr is probably one of the most important Raiders in the last 20 years and that says so much more about the Raiders than it does Derek Carr.

Janikowski was the most important Raider before Carr. That’s a big stretch of awful.

Bo Jackson stopped playing in 1990, Tim Brown actually spent his last season in Tampa (18 years ago), and Woodson won DPOY and a Super Bowl with Green Bay.

Marcus Allen was a good in Tecmo Bowl and had a 1,700 yard season.  Howie Long, and pre-Saved-By-The-Bell Bob Golic too.

They finally went through with the release.  More details here.  Apparently he wasn't compliant with their requests for him to see an orthopedist.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33006862/tampa-bay-buccaneers-release-antonio-brown

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have terminated the contract of Antonio Brown, effective immediately, the team announced Thursday.

"While Antonio did receive treatment on his ankle and was listed on the injury report the week leading up to last Sunday's game, he was cleared to play by our medical team prior to the start of the game and at no point during the game did he indicate to our medical personnel that he could not play.

"We have attempted, multiple times throughout this week, to schedule an evaluation by an outside orthopedic specialist, yet Antonio has not complied. Maintaining the health and wellness of our players is of the utmost importance to our organization."

Well, anyone who knows anything about the Bucs had to recognize that this whole thing was going to go down in flames eventually. I’m to the point that I’m actually excited to see just how insane this gets considering the Bucs unique brand of dysfunction. It could truly be one for the ages.
