I don't know how fast steamboats actually traveled, but the last thing I think about when I see one is the boat flying down the river like a cigarette boat. The last thing this logo needs to do is try to emphasize speed. That's why I thought it was a speedboat at first since it was so tiny. I would expect though that it would be a modern upgrade of the old logo.

tBBP
Probably worth reminding what that original Showboats logo looked like: An anthromorphized...something...toting the rock. Looks like half whale half steamwheeler or either that big eater fish thing from Super Mario 3. The rest of that package: Whole lotta red going on...right along with the rest of the USFL. 1 Quote *Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. || dribbble || Behance ||

Regardless, I always found it to be one of the USFL's more underwhelming helmet designs. That wordmark, however, is really clever. I'd much rather see a helmet made to use that "S."

I think there is a lot of potential with the original set. 19 hours ago, tBBP said: Probably worth reminding what that original Showboats logo looked like: An anthromorphized...something...toting the rock. I remember that logo but don't remember seeing it get a lot of use. The half paddle wheel and the wordmark were used much more to my recollection. My assumption was that the cartoon was sort of the USFL equivalent of one of those NFL Huddles mascots geared toward kids. I hope my memory isn't faulty because it's a terrible logo for any other purpose. 5 Quote Most Liked Content of the Day -- February 15, 2017, August 21, 2017, August 22, 2017 ///// Proud Winner of the CCSLC Post of the Day Award -- April 8, 2008 Originator of the Upside Down Sarcasm Smilie -- November 1, 2005

I always took that it was supposed to be the paddle but could never figure out why it was designed the way it was as I've never seen a paddle that looked like that. For some reason, it makes me think of a carnival. That "S" logo is sharp...it inspired a re-design for a project I was working on prior to the USFL coming back was announced.

Cruhawk7975
Agreed. If nothing else its a unique and distinctive brand identity for the USFL to build on and update. Plus they can somewhat mitigate the red issue by switching the main Jersey color to gray/silver and still look like it fitss.

The problem is it has to be extremely dark to avoid looking like a dirty white jersey (See Patriots silver alt). I don't there's really such a thing as "dark silver", so you're looking at grey or something like the Bucs' pewter jersey.
