I mean, I don't mind it as much on the Canes jersey either since the entire arm below the stripe is also black, so the red middle actually works in that case to help break up an otherwise black-heavy section of the jersey.

 

The Boston one, I find a little more irksome because of the inconsistency between the hem and arm. The arms are more black-heavy, but the hem is more gold-heavy so it just looks kinda weird to me. Not horrible, but I'd definitely prefer if it had one consistent style.

100%. There is a great Shark logo in there somewhere - I wish theyd find it. If they could have a classic looking primary logo that went with the style of this shoulder patch I'd probably be deeply in love with the Sharks' look.

 

While on the topic, can I just express how perplexed I am when people think that these shoulder patch logos are perfectly suited to be used as primary crests. Am I crazy or does anyone else feel like about 85% of the time, this is never a good idea. The design intention of a secondary logo is never for it to be used as the primary logo for an organisation.

 

Vegas do it - it doesn't work. Carolina do it - it's an awful jersey logo. Blue Jackets have it - I don't like it. Dallas use their secondary on a fluro jersey - awful. Minnesota, nope its just a wordmark. Washington shouldn't do it even though everyone wants them to. Florida's sunrise logo was just a gimmicky looking thing.

 

There are about half a dozen more teams that could use their shoulder patches as primaries but they'd all look bad in my opinion. The only one in recent memory that I think has worked pretty well is Bostons 'Bruins' logo with the bear. 

 

I'll sit back and wait for the comments on my opinion. Pretty sure almost everyone will disagree to some extent.

I can't think of a secondary that would make a good primary. However, there's the Jets primary, which would make a great secondary.

Way off topic but I went to see the San Diego Gulls tonight and I was shocked how much I liked the look of what is essentially a recolored Reebok Flames jersey

 

 

Idk the light blue just popped. I guess my point here is that an ugly modern uniform template can really be improved by vibrant color scheme, but using the darker, muted colors of the 2000s made those Reebok designs flop.

Tampa Bay, really? That's very much a shoulder patch logo and nothing more to me.

I can see it working on an alternate, admittedly. As the main brand mark, though, likely not.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'd want the Lightning shoulder patch on the front of a jersey.  It would be too much like this flop

I was at the Kings-Penguins game last thursday and i realised that they were pushing their alternate jersey a lot. Everytime a celebrity came on the screen to cheer them or the interviewers themselves were all wearing the white alternate. Seems like a good indication it might soon become their permanent look, along with a matching black one

I have always wanted a Blues jersey with the 90s trumpet shoulder patch as the crest. I think it would make a great alternate jersey

I'm almost certain they won't be worn during the game. The Flyers wore them in warmups with their reverse retros last season, so I'm guessing Carolina will do the same thing.

If the Sharks would occasionally bring out black helmets and pants just to use as an alt with the home jersey this would be a nearly perfect set. I agree with the “update the old crest similar to the current shoulder patch” idea. The current primary logo is wonky and dumb looking and still includes that stupid yellowish orange in the triangle. Make the stick a darker orange (Giants orange would be nice) and banish that baby poop looking color to hell. 
 

I even think, as an alternative, the sharks should ditch the orange and instead just use a splash of red. Seems more fitting for a team called the Sharks.
