After the Sharks teased black shells and gloves that match the striping of their primary teal equipment their new jerseys became a second thought. A new third is cool but the idea of them being able to pair their black equipment with their home jerseys is the biggest news that comes from all of this.

"Something different" and "their best look" are two very different things.

That's the conclusion you went with when you saw that? Huh?? I'd say about 90% of the time a team teases new equipment colors, they're meant to be worn with an alternate jersey.

Although I wholeheartedly disagree with your opinion, I definitely admire your courage to post it.

with the mixing and matching of teal helmets with the road uniforms, a door has been opened to possibly mix and match the black equipment with the regular sets

From what I have been told from my season ticket rep, is each team will only be wearing two jerseys next year. Of course he could be wrong, but interesting teams are still releasing 3rds

I also asked my rep about the Canucks jersey, there is a chance the black skate will be the jersey for the playoffs.

Exactly why the playoff jersey rule now is so stupid. The Canucks may wear a jersey with completely different colors and logos than their primary brand during the most important games. Nothing could possibly be more brand diluting than that.

Either A) let teams mix and match jerseys in the playoffs (like the MLB and NBA) or - ideally - b) make teams wear their primary uniforms for all playoff games (like the NFL).

There is literally no reason to force teams to dilute their brands by wearing alternates or throwbacks for every playoff game. Let them wear them for just a couple games or ban them for the playoffs entirely.

Think I've made this point before, but those decisions are more the fault of the franchise than the league as a whole. I've always thought the alternates in the playoffs rule was a fun way to make a particular playoff run memorable (the Lady Liberty jerseys gave Gretzky's one playoff run with the Rangers a fun flair) or tease a future rebrand (2006 Ducks, 2007 Canucks, 2014 Ducks, 2016 Penguins). If the Canucks want to wear the black skate alternate (I agree it shouldn't be worn in the playoffs), blame them, not the league rule.

Out of the two options you gave, I'd rather go with primaries only in the playoffs. Mixing and matching should never take place on a playoff run.

As a Sharks fan who is used to variations of black jerseys with simplified striping for the last 20 years, absolutely. Not that I don't like them, it just isn't a surprise anymore. I am much more excited about the possibility of the team addressing the one thing I dislike about their current uniforms.

Yes, alt equipment is primarily meant to be paired with the alt jersey but I see things trending the other way in the near future. The Sharks are also the type of team to expect experimentation from. Since the beginning of November the Sharks have worn teal helmets with their away uniform 14 times. The only game they haven't worn that combo was when they wore their home uniform in LA so the Kings could wear their alts. It seems they prefer to be in the other 10% if they feel it looks better.

Not sure I’ll read that much into it, but yes. Absolutely. The new set is nice, but getting to see that jersey with black breezers, gloves, and helmets in particular would be such a nice throwback. They should absolutely do that for games like Joe Thornton’s upcoming jersey retirement. A nice, subtle nod to the past without having to bust out era appropriate throwbacks.

Replacing the current logo with the Fin would be throwing out the baby with the bathwater.  I agree the logo is in dire need of an update but the fin is not strong enough to be their primary logo.

It hasn't been given a chance to be the primary logo, every single Sharks jersey except for the Seals inspired RR has had a version of the Shark biting through a Hockey stick. I guess we are going to find out if that logo is strong enough to be a primary with the new alternate.

I think it's pretty obvious the black alt will lead to them trying a equipment swap (black gloves+pants with the home set, teal gloves+pants with the alt) at some point. We've seen that happen with multiple teams (Columbus' blue pants come to mind, Carolina did it as well and it happens all the time in the NFL), wouldn't surprise me if the Sharks at least test the waters to see how the combo looks.

As for the fin logo, I think ultimately using it for an alternate's main crest is fine. It'd be the first time something besides the primary was on the front of a Sharks jersey, which would at least give it a sense of uniqueness; and alternates are supposed to be where you have a little fun with the branding.

Weird to see three new alternate jerseys all have circle crests (Ducks/Lightning/Sharks).  Seems like that's the new trending theme.

Also...I realize alt NHL jerseys were introduced in Jan '96 (IIRC), but it sure seems weird to wait a half a season and then say "Oh yeah...by the way...here's our new jersey for a few games this year".

Their Neon is by far their best look:

I caught their New Year's Eve game on TV (I came thisclose to actually going to the game in person, and I probably should have since they straight up STOMPED the Blackhawks), but I was surprised beyond belief at myself by how much I found myself marveling at that jersey/those uniforms. If they go on sale after the season, I might just see about ordering one...

(And that's saying something considering my fervent angst for most things Dallas...)

I love this jersey other than the numbers on the back. It's unreadable from afar, either make them full neon like the name or fill them in with white. But as someone else said, it's fine alternate but not a primary.

I think the Stars look great now other than the logo. I still don't understand how they couldn't just swap the gold with silver in the previous logo.

If the sharks bring back the black breezers and gloves (and bring back teal numbers on the road), they would look phenomenal. I just don't like the pajama look.
