2023 - 2024 NBA changes

Why is Nike/The NBA so obsessed with black/navy/white for city looks? When these were introduced, I was under the impression that these uniforms would be the most unique ones in a team's set. In just a matter of years, the creativity with these (outside of maybe the mixtapes we got a couple of years ago) have nosedived. It feels like they are just phoning them in at this point in most cases, just so they can get another jersey out to make money from and for collectors to buy.

Washington, San Antonio, and maybe Indiana might be the only ones the intrigue me right now, but I'm desensitized at this point. It's hard to care much for a fun new uniform when I know it will only be carried for less than a season then never mentioned again.

I have to hope against hope that at some point sanity is going to prevail and the whole City Edition program will get mothballed. Only a handful have ever been worthwhile to begin with and now that those have been blown through, things are quickly going from bad to abysmal. But I guess somebody out there is buying this stuff, or else they wouldn't keep doing it.

Found some city leaks from the same Instagram account that previously posted the Warriors + Heat leak.  Their account is __2hands_shop__ on Instagram for those wondering. This particular batch is Wizards, Clippers, and the matching shorts for the previous Pacers leak.

As far as the actual designs go, I'll say that they're interesting at the very least (minus the Clippers). The gradient on the Wizards jersey is really intriguing, especially when paired with the altered logo and half black/half grey design that they're using. I don't really expect this to look good on the court but at least it's new and exciting in comparison to some other city jerseys we've seen in years past. One of my main critiques though is the sheer amount of black uniforms we're getting this year. Taking all the leaks/releases we've seen to this point into consideration, there are going to be at least 8 black uniforms (CHI, WSH, IND, MIA, GSW, LAL, BKN, DAL). The 2022/23 class was fairly disappointing to me not only because of lacking designs, but also because 17 of the 29 city jerseys were either black or white. I hate looking at each of the jerseys on release day and seeing the majority of the league looking one of two ways, especially when the city program is all about trying new things and being expressive. I'm personally tired of the city program at this point, even if they churn out a few decent designs each season.

Edit: Clippers look more navy than black, but the point still stands

Great find @fortunat1! They also have a better look of the Heat Culture jersey.

Alternate designs, "City" inspired looks, artist collaborations etc. are one thing but for some reason plastering your dumb locker room sloganeering onto the jersey is a new level entirely of stupid. Doesn't seem very "Heat Culture" at all! This is the kind of thing that belongs on the cheapo t-shirts they give away to all seats at a playoff game, that's it.

Miami should very obviously just rotate through 3 or 4 Vice color jerseys and be happy with it.

That's just lazy... and has Miami ever used that particular variant of the wishbone collar before? I know Orlando, GSW and others probably have, but IIRC Miami has not, though I could be wrong, i.e., maybe there was one or two city or statement ones that used it and I missed it.

I hope I can articulate this thought correctly ... but, have you guys ever had a dream about something that is related to something you were thinking about/experiencing in real life before going to bed, and so...

...the dream's content is like a really weird, obscured, preposterous adaptation of what the subject IRL was?

... yeah, that is what I think I am experiencing when I see what Nike has done with the NBA. And, it's not just that the designs are bad and sloppy, but even the material and weird seams/paneling just looks incredibly cheap.

Sure, a few here or there look complete, but the vast majority of what they are pumping out is comically bad. It makes me sad.

Yes, they used and no, they didn't.

Yes, because It's a standard wishbone for swingman's in nike era.

No, if you think of collar like this on a game day jersey:

Which won't be on authentic City either (it's gonna be same like on away jersey).

these teams have got to chill out with black and dark jerseys. not even in the sense that "black out" jerseys used to be a cool thing and its lost its magic now. but also in the sense that the whole league is looking more and more diluted. like if you wanna be one of the 20 something teams with black/dark jerseys you gotta at least make some redeeming designs. its really ironic how so far it seems to be the the jazz who are coming out with the least controversial jerseys this year that surprisingly aren't black or minimalistic.

from leaks and releases these are the teams so far coming out with new black/dark grey jerseys: kings, lakers, pacers, rockets (technically), warriors, mavericks, bulls, wizards, and nets (though i give nets a pass since their design is pretty crazy and they're the nets.)

then we're probably gonna get a handful of more (like raptors as always) on top of all the black jerseys that teams already have in their main rotation. like the suns who've made their statement jersey their whole identity this past year or kings who've decided to make their primary color black now...

Heat will now have a Carnival Cruise Lines ad patch:

I'm sure the answer is something to do with taxes, but what is the point of this? The Heat's owner is the chairman of Carnival, so he's just writing himself a check?
