5 years ago the Chiefs were the red version of the Jets. Now they have as many Lombardis as the Giants and Packers

Also anyone else remember when SF was 5-0 in the Super Bowl?

I’ve mentioned it before but I grew up in Niners territory and the first Super Bowl I saw was the one after their last win. I cannot tell you how many times I heard this as a talking point.

I still can’t wrap my head around the Bucs having two Super Bowl wins while sucking most of the time I’ve been a fan, yet the Niners have dominated that same stretch and have none. Football is weird.

Also, we have back to back Ultimate Playoff Losers. Congrats, Eagles! They lost to Tampa, who lost to Detroit, who lost to SF, who lost to KC.

Tampa won (lost) that crown last season (Dal-SF-PHI-KC).

This hurts man. This hurts way worse than any other loss in professional football I've ever experienced. Don't tell me "you'll be back next year" or any of that. I'll be back in September screaming about a bunch of idiots wearing red and gold, but I'm gonna need some time away from football.

Why can't this stupid team just lose in a normal way? Why did we have to become the first team to ever lose a Super Bowl after holding a lead in overtime?

This sucks.

Niners have this awesome team and these :censored:in nobodies at QB and the result is always the same. Purdy is nice, sure. But you think that dude is ever gonna be the IT guy? :censored: no. Never gonna happen. Niners are doing everything they can to win a title except for the ONE thing that actually works. Only time teams win, only time the Niners have ever won, is when they had the man at QB. Had the Niners been more proactive on Brady or Rodgers, they probably wouldn’t have this same stupid played out issue. And I know a lot of the time that’s so much easier said than done. I also know the Niners have also had some really bad luck with all of this. But they’ve also created so much more of this mess than they ever get criticized for.

Screw that. If you're blaming Purdy for that then you don't know what you're talking about. He did not wilt under the pressure of the playoffs or the Super Bowl. As a Niners fan, I think he's the guy.

Seriously, how do you land on Purdy to shoulder the blame for that loss??? Makes no sense. It sounds like you've spent too much time listening to talk shows hating on him for clicks.

I mean, I hope I’m wrong, but I kinda see a ceiling for him being somewhere around what Kirk Cousins is. That’s not necessarily a knock, because Cousins is very good, but it’s also not “that” type of guy. He’s currently got the same playoff record as Jimmy G and sort of had a lot of the same problems Jimmy G did in the Super Bowl vs Kansas City (The Aiyuk overthrow gave me PTSD). I could be wrong but I’m not sold yet on him. “Game Manager” feels even more apt after that game in my mind.

Also, just to be fair, a lot of my frustration stems from legit DECADES of the Niners missing out on that kind of guy due to a combination of some really dumb luck, and some really dumbass decision making on their part (Everything from taking Alex Smith over Rodgers to not pursuing Brady harder when he was just right there for the taking).

Or sleep as in my case. The game ends at 4:47 AM (I turned off tv basically right after Hardman scores a TD) and I needed to wake up at 7 AM, so you can imagine that I'm partially a zombie right now.

The team sure thinks so.  I hear they've been putting him through cybersecurity and AWS trainings in hopes of him advancing from help-desk to CIO.  It's the football stuff that's currently holding him back.

It's funny how when Kelce does this, it's because he's passionate and just wants to be on the field to help the team win, but when a guy like AJ Brown - by all accounts, a really good dude - does it, he's a selfish show-off diva that wants the ball all the time.

Brown pointed this out himself, albeit in a slightly -dramatic way ("When I do that, everyone wants me off the team.")

Turns out the "it takes all of us" end-zone paint and rear bumper statements aren't effectual - who knew?

If Clark Hunt cared as much about FC Dallas than he does with the Chiefs, maybe things will be better for FC Dallas, but alas it isn't meant to be.

And it's why the Columbus Crew have steadily improved since he gave them up, though it took the guy who bought them trying to pull a Major League to get the team in better shape with the next owners.

He’s four championships away from catching Brady. Can we please pump the brakes on this guy a bit? It’s really getting ridiculous.

Y’all are absolutely nuts.

He's also got a good 8-10 years left if he avoids serious injuries. I'm happy to see if he can do it. Especially since the Browns are stuck with the worst contract in sports for three more years.

Yeah I don't think championship count is the be-all end-all.  Once you get to an elite number (and let's be real here, 3 is pretty elite), you're in that top tier (well, top "non Brady" tier).   Not saying that 3 titles automatically puts you in that tier - nobody is going to say that Troy Aikman or Bradshaw is in that discussion - but we can start talking about him in the same breath as Montana et al, and barring injury, it's fathomable that he could go down as 1-a, or 2.

I can't see anyone eclipsing Brady, but if he continues to drag teams even after Reid retires, then we have to have that conversation.  Still a long time before we're worrying about that.

The Chiefs have that thing that the Patriots had in the latter Brady years where they're obviously good, but teams also seem to self-immolate against them in playoff games. It's like they think they have to play perfectly to beat KC and in doing so hand them assists all over the place. They could've easily had losses in all of this Super Bowl, last year's Super Bowl, this year's Ravens game, this year's Bills game, the AFC Championship last year against the Bengals, the 13 seconds game against Buffalo, etc. Time after time an opponent short circuits and muffs a punt or donates a defensive TD like Hurts did a year ago. The last time a team didn't give them any wiggle room was the Bengals in 2021 and the Chiefs haven't lost a playoff game since.

You do have to hand it to them.

I'd say right now, Brady has his own tier, and Mahomes is clearly in that next tier, with the likes of Joe Montana, Ken Anderson, and... well I'm not sure anyone else is in that next tier.

After that we're talking about the Elways, maybe the Staubachs, the Foles', and some of the early-SB era guys.

EDIT: Regarding everyone's favorite IT admin Brock Purdy, he's got some early-Brady vibes.  Early Brady was winning titles without being the star - just making great decisions and not making dumb plays.  I'm not saying Purdy is going to have that type of career - especially if there's a coaching change at any point - but he's proven me wrong.  He's the kind of guy that I think will be able to make plays even if their offensive talent declines.

49er players are now saying that they weren't coached up on the new OT rules, and legitimately had no idea that they wouldn't have won if they got a TD.

Chiefs players say that Reid told them on day-1 of SB prep about their OT plan, which was to kick off, and go for 2 if the 49ers scored a TD and practiced the 2-pt play options.

As has been mentioned, you have to be perfect to beat the Chiefs, and even that one detail was enough to cost them.

How in the world does this not get covered at some point during the pregame preparations? Or even a memo during the regular season lmao

Ummm Ken Anderson is no where near any tier Joe Montana and Mahomes is in, he's in the bottom end of the tier of QB's who made 1 Super Bowl and lost.

Right now Mahomes is on the level with Bradshaw and Montana, even though he has one less ring than them.

I know Brady has 7 rings and is the GOAT, but it just feels like we’re watching the eventual greatest QB of all time in his prime when watching Mahomes. He’s unbelievable.

Unquestionably solidified himself as one of the two best QB’s ever tonight.

So which of Unitas, Staubach, or Montana has he replaced? (Because Brady is definitely entrenched.)

That's the difference between winning and losing right there.

Not so much a genius after all, are ya, Kyle Shanahan??

I've heard this similar sentiment from fans of the Cowboys or Steelers or, well, any team that has won multiples of Super Bowl titles, except none recently.

As a Vikings fan whose team lost their fourth Super Bowl three months after I was born and haven't been back since, despite having some incredible teams, I cannot relate with fans of any franchise that has an expectation of winning Super Bowls.

On an unrelated note, Ken Anderson should be in his own Ken Anderson Tier and have his own Ken Anderson wing in Canton.  /ducks

I bet if you counted from coin toss to final whistle she was on the screen for maybe no more than 2 minutes total.  Did you complain when Jay Z, Martha Stewart, Lebron, and others were on the screen too?
