I’m mostly just glad it’s a local company, and the logo looks fine enough. It’s still a significant downgrade from Alaska Airlines IMO, and there were several other options that I would’ve preferred, but it’s fine. We’ve seen much worse across the league.

DaBella last year relocated its headquarters from Oregon to Austin, Texas.

The Timbers Reddit has been very vocal about how of all the "local" businesses they could pick, most Timbers fans are not happy with this choice.

I get it, and I don't blame them. But at the same time, it's not like the club has its pick of any brand it or its fans want. I have to imagine that the value proposition of associating with the Timbers, considering all of the issues the franchise has endured in the past few years, isn't as desirable as it once was. I can't imagine beloved local brands were just lining up for this opportunity.

In this case, they attracted a much smaller brand -- one that's barely recognizable even in Portland -- that wants to raise its profile on a broader scale. They probably paid a lot less than what Alaska Airlines did, too.

Why can't MLS get more well known companies for sponsorships? I understand it for less popular teams in smaller markets but LAFC, Galaxy, Seattle, Atlanta, and Miami are premier teams and all have not very well known or just weird sponsors.

Only teams I can think of with well known sponsors are:

Charlotte - Ally (at least for me)

Austin - Yeti

Toronto - BMO (big in Canada I guess)

Minnesota - Target

NYC teams - Kind of? But they are owned by them so not as cool

Houston needs to do something about their orange kits. Mainly adjust the shade or possibly saturation of the orange, and switch to white numbers/lettering. Watching them play SKC right now, and those orange kits are not easy on my eyes.

Press branding Ctrl-Z on the shade of orange haha

Though I wouldn't mind if they went back to wearing orange/white/orange and using light blue trim like they used to...

I have to agree as a Dynamo fan. this new shade of "orange" its worse in person.  Kind of staring at an orange highliter. I can't purchase this jersey.

also, rumor I saw was the 2024 away is going to be black with purple/orange like the playoff artwork.  :(

The entire purpose of these companies buying a shirt sponsorship is to become more well-known. Teams are trying to attract an advertiser that finds the exposure valuable to growing their brand. It's about benefiting the advertiser -- the paying customer, in this case. It's not to solicit a more well-known brand to benefit the team.

Besides, some of the bigger, more recognizable brands are already league-wide sponsors, which would make a shirt sponsorship deal unnecessarily duplicative.

Columbus has Nationwide as the main shirt sponsor. I'll still take this over the original MLS days when the league assigned the brands to each team.

Smaller "challenger" brands are more likely to sponsor shirts/patches than Apple, Google, etc.

And this is why the Crew's sleeve sponsor is Tipico Sportsbook.

United Health (New England) is worth nearly $500 billion, Alaska Airlines (Portland) is the 5th largest airline in North America, Thomas' (Philadelphia) is just a sub brand of Bimbo, the largest bread company in America, American Family Insurance is a multibillion dollar company, and basically every company sponsoring an MLS jersey is a Fortune 500 company

Not being sufficiently well known to you =/= Not well known or extremely profitable

I've got a dribbble, check it out if you like my stuff; alternatively, if you hate my stuff, send it to your enemies to punish their insolence!

Dog food... Surely St Louis can do do better. Can they not get Budweiser/Bud Light? Edward Jones?

While the league used to do that, I wonder if there's some sort of regulation due to the younger audience/promotion of adult items? It would probably be the same thing like in Europe where betting sponsors are taken off children's kits/international competitions.
