This is all true.

Years ago when I lived in West Virginia, there was a town called Poca, and yes, they called the high school team there the POCA DOTS.

In Tennessee, a school is named for one of the first executives of the state....the WILLIAM BLOUNT GOVERNORS.

There is also a high school in the city of Alcoa, named for the aluminum company, and they are the ALCOA TORNADOES.

I remember one reported on SportsCenter, that was recently changed, was the Devil's Lake Satans. Devil's Lake is I believe in Nebraska.

My middle school's teams were called the Red Devils; which is a little redundant, since the Great Satan hisself is red and scaly, with a bifurcated tail, and he carries a hayfork.

its in North Dakota, close to where I grew up. It was one of my rival schools. They changed to Firebirds. My School's name was the Spoilers. I've never seen that anywhere else before.

One more from Wisconsin>The Whitewater Whippets.  A whippet is a grayhound.

Downington (PA) also has the Whippets.

Dudley High in Greensboro, NC goes by the Whirlies; as far as I can tell, a Whirlie was like a beanie cap with a propellor on it.

The last one's changed, but it was one of my favorites: Auburn High (MA) went by "the Dandies", and the mascot was "an effeminate, well-dressed gentleman". They changed to the Rockets a few years back (birthplace of Lewis Goddard, American father of rocketry).

Actually, it's Grimsley High that goes by the Whirlies. And their logo is a tornado with Grimsley written at the top.
