Cavaliers Wine Jersey

Recommended Posts

It has not been worn on the road in the playoffs. Don't get me wrong I like the Cavs alt jersey, but it should only be worn once in a while. I hope Dan Gilbert isn't changing team colours to navy with wine & gold trim. We Cavs fans love the wine & gold!!!

IMO the Cavs have an extremely solid uniform set overall. But, i also feel that the Navy jersey just dominates the wine colored jersey. It just looks right for Cleveland, and the stripes on the arms and neck work amazingly well (shocking to me considering how bad the throwbacks last year were) and its extremely unique. Best uni in the NBA IMO.

I have no doubt the wine jersey will stay, even if it eventually becomes the alternate. However, it may very well not. The one reason I can think of that the Cavs have been using the navy jersey so much in the playoffs is because they're trying to evoke the spirit of the "Miracle" Cavs of 1976. Sorry to say, there will be no miracle vs. Detroit. :P

Don't worry. I seriously doubt that the Cavs are changing colors. NBA teams do this all the time. They wear their alternate for all road games in the playoffs. I don't know why, personally I think that they should go mostly primary, and then alternate for a few games. Look at New Jersey in '02, they wore their gray alts instead of navy for both road games in the NBA Finals against the Lakers. Look at Orlando in '95, they wore the blue alternates instead of black for all their road games in the playoffs. Teams do this all the time.

Yes, but for the last several years the Magic wore those unis they wore blue much more often than black. They didn't just do it for the playoffs. I am not even sure if black was a uniform choice the whole time. If it was, they only wore it a handful of times a year. For all I know, they might have changed blue to the "official" road jersey by the 94 season. I was excited to see the blue at first, but I soon got tired of it because they always wore it. I loved the black jerseys, and I hated to see them go.

This is only by memory, but I also remember that the Orlando Magic team that lost in the Finals to Houston and wore only blue on the road playoff games -- their primary uniform was indeed black that year. I recall thinking it was odd that they changed for the playoffs, although I liked the blue ones much better.

Then about a year or 2 later they changed uniform designs and the blue was the road primary.

Clippers should be wearing the superior blue Los Angeles jerseys for road games, and make that the full-time road uniform.

Would have really loved to see the alternate navy blue Cavs jersey with just CAVS (not full Cavaliers)  on the front to make it stand out more from the wine road jersey? Wonder why they didn't give this a whirl?

Note: The navy blues don't have "Cavaliers" on 'em. They have "Cleveland", just like the wines. ^_^ Or were you simply suggesting that they say "Cavs" so that they'd be differentiated from even the home whites?

Well, now that I think about it, it isn't a half bad idea; it would be sort of a homage to the discarded blue/orange/black schemes (I don't know if anybody really called them the Cavs before they introduced that logo along with the blue and orange) and that whole part of their history.

One thing I have to say, though: I never was very taken with their various looks during that time, as I'm sure many people here weren't. Those two basket-centric logos always seemed rather uncreative to me. The '80's unis were okay, but nothing overly special. The "spilled paint" uniform sets were fairly unique, I suppose, but they also looked a bit garish. The ones they used from '99-'03 were about as bland as you could get, I thought.

Mad props to the Cavs for taking two decades of dullness and completely wiping them away with a killer logo and uniform set, which is now clearly one of the best in the league.

I really like the navy ones, more than the wine unis.

I dont consider it a coincidence that the Nike LeBron "Witness" commercial only show the Cavs in white and navy uniforms. Some nice coordination there by Nike I guess.

Just to verify... As stated a few posts earlier. The Cavaliers wanted to separate themselves from "CAVS" and get back to the tradition of Cavaliers. They went back to a variation of the wine and gold. The new logo set is more in tune with the nick-name. I personally felt a gold alternate would have been pretty cool. To me... there is too much black and blue. Cavs was simply a nick name that grew.. just like Mavs. Or in other sports, Yanks, O's, Tribe, Bo-Sox etc. It should NEVER have been made in to a branding strategy for their logo. Man, Could you imagine if the Yankees re-branded themselves and the logo said "Yanks" ??

Now as far as the uni's go, we'll see what happens if the Cavaliers are able to get to a game 5 in Detroit. While in blue, the Cavaliers got smoked. Maybe for a change of luck, they'll bring out the Wine for (Hopefully) a Game 5.
