in favor of the more popular (and better looking) blue and silver throwbacks.

That's the best part of that whole thing. Those jerseys might be somewhat boring, but somehow, they just work.

Clearly, I'm missing something, but I've never understood the gushing love for the Lions' throwbacks. No striping or trim on the helmets, jerseys, or pants, no helmet logos, and single color numbers - it's essentially a practice uniform with sewn-on numbers. I know that in these days of excessive branding and proprietary striping and piping, there's something to be said for minimalism, but for me, the Lions' throwback look just swings too far to the other end.

For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head. Thats what it looks like to me. Also the flair around the tip of the beak is just flair that fleur de lis have sometimes source I am from NOLA.

That sucks. I'm a Lions fan and the black jersey was the only one out of the current set that I liked and would wear. At least it's fashionable. The regular uniforms look tacky on and off the field. The previous set was better and shouldn't have been messed with, but if you're going to add black you might as well use it properly.

The Lions throwbacks are absolutely too boring for me (although I guess I don't mind them during a traditional day like Thanksgiving).

And the poster who doesn't like the Jaguars in black.... What? Are you nuts?! The only time Jacksonville looks good is in black-on-black and in teal-on-black.

All I can say about the Lions ditching the balck jerseys is.....

It's About Time!!!!

If only for this season! IMHO ^_^

Amen brotha! I agree with you 100%. I'm super excited to hear this.

I think my favorite part of that uni is the long all blue socks.

Yeah, same here. It just looks so clean. Like Flame said, it may be really simpe, but it just works.

Bad. I really liked the black jersey, and those throwbacks suck. At least go back to the Sanders-era ones.

Agree with the Sanders-era throwbacks. But the blacks were pretty terrible. Detroit should not wear black.

I don't really care for those throwbacks, as I think they are too plain. I like a traditional look, but if there is no striping or outline at all it's just too boring.

And as the article says, this is just for the 75th Anniversary, and they will be wearing a patch as well. The patch is in the Rookie Premier thread and looks really good IMO.

I can understand the hatred for the blacks, although I happened to like them, but the throwbacks? Way too simple. They looked OK when paired with an opponent wearing throwbacks on Thanksgiving, but I can't imagine seeing them on the field with some of the more modern designs being used today.
