DEAD!
I guess we should invite Australia, Brazil and South Africa to World Championship of Ice Hockey to be inclusive If Australia wins this year's Div I, Group A championship, they will qualify for next year's worlds. I saw, I came, I left.
jkrdevil
I do like the double elimination format better than the complicated tie-breakers they had last time. That said playing the 6th game to determine the pool winner, when 2 teams advance seems unecessary. Just haf the winners of the upper/winners bracket and lower/losers bracket advance with the upper bracket winner being the pool winner. Oakland (SS) beat South Africa 6-1That's terrible.South Africa is easily the worst team in the World Baseball Classic. At least Italy and the Netherlands have professional leagues. How South Africa is in the tournament while countries like Panama and Nicaragua who actually have a history of playing the sport is a mystery to me. Hopefully for the next tournament there will be a qualifying system so that any country that is part of the IBAF can try to qualify. Perhaps a system like in rugby would work. Where the teams that qualify for the second round get to qualify for the next tournament, and the teams that don't make the 2nd round can play qualifiers against the other nations.I've mentioned it several times but the tournament probably has too many teams and the eligibility rules are too loose. I would be willing to bet that many of the players for Italy have never stepped foot in the country.

But I still stand by my statement that Nicaragua should be in, instead of South Africa.

fiasco!
Yu Darvish looks like a freaking machine. I would like to see Mike Ilitch throw bags of cash his way.He better get some movement on his fastball. He's 22, I'm sure with a MLB pitching coach, he can still learn a thing or two. They only had half of the team, the other half was playing someone else.Which is why that score was terrible. With that said...Korea's looking like they might be the favorites out of that group if Japan doesn't show up better than they did yesterday. Breakwood
Bah! Long day at the office. The Italians sure are happy to be at this thing. My break was broken up by a giddy Italian team video taping their walk through the bowels of the Rogers Centre. Not sure why you'd want to video tape concrete, but I guess if I grew up playing baseball in Italy it would be thrilling to see a 50,000 seat "baseball" stadium. He asked me where the Italian Clubhouse was...they got shafted, they have to use the Football visitors dressing room.
TBGKon
Short-Squad. They only had half of the team, the other half was playing someone else.FYI, but it's actually split squad. Typically when that is scheduled, there are 2 games in 1 day and half the team goes on plance and half goes to the other.
Breakwood
BTW, rumour has it that the USA-Canada game is sold-out, or as close to sold out as you'll get (note a couple sections in the 500 level outfield are blocked off with banners). Should be a great atmosphere.
