2009 NFL Season Thread

I'm still waiting for that 2-14, 1-15 Steelers season. I'd like to see at least one really bad Steelers team in my life. It would only be fair. 6-7 and losing to the Browns is bad and funny, but they still have an outside shot at the playoffs. I'd like to see how Steelers fans deal with a team that is just flat out terrible.

You'll be waiting a long time. The worst season they've had since 1970 is 5-11 and that happened once. And the fans didn't deal with it well at all.

Hell...they didn't handle a wild-card playoff loss well. For cripe's sake, they don't handle ANY loss well. Go ask Tommy Maddox how Steelers fans would respond to a terrible loss or a bad team.

I'm no longer up there (thank GOD!), but I'd reckon the city is probably quite literally seething as we speak right about now. And then they lost to the BROWNS? Oh hell naw...

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

Wow. The Steelers lose to the Browns. Wow. That makes me happy. Just a little bit.

And for the record, it's Tomlin's team now, just like it was his team last year when they won the Super Bowl.

Actually, I created the SPotD (Stupid Post of the Day) a couple of years ago. I would reply with a simple "You've been SPotD 12/10/2009" or something like that. Obviously, it didn't quite take off. We could always bring it back. Can someone make a logo for that? :P

Nor quite the same thing, but I dug this up from CCSLC days of yore....

As if this hasn't been enough of a downer season for the Falcons, now we have the latest installment of "stupid is as stupid does":

DT Babineaux Arrested

picard-facepalm.jpg

So half the team is injured, you're playing against arguably the best team in the NFL, and instead of doin your best to get prepared for the big game, you get caught with weed. Way to go, that's probably a suspension since this definitely isn't his first run-in with the law. IIRC, he's had a domestic violence issue & an animal cruelty thing going on with him in the past. So yeah, I'm guessing he'll be suspended in the near future.

That being said, Turner & Ryan are probably going to be game-time decisions. I hope they don't play, the last time Turner was a game-time decision, he re-injured himself, & turf toe is a bitch to recover from, & I don't want Ryan playing unless he's absolutely sure that he can go w/o any chance of him doing what Turner did a couple of weeks ago.

Then again, this is coming from a fan who knows that the Falcons season is basically over since the Falcons could win out and still have less than a 50% chance of making the playoffs, & they're playing the Saints this week. I'm just praying that they get hot over the last three weeks and somehow win 9 games.

Tomorrow the Saints go for their 13th win. They've never won that many in a season. They went 12-4 in '92 and in a truly Saintesque occurrence, they didn't even win the division. The %@)$*) 49ers went 14-2 that year.

I've been cutting them breaks all season, but it's gonna stop right now. This Buccaneers team is by far the most pathetic excuse for an NFL team I've ever seen. Their once strong defense couldn't tackle a high school running back at this point. We better not lose the coin toss to the Rams, because Suh is EXACTLY what we need.

So from here on out,

GO RAMS

Rams could use Suh, but they have some good defensive building blocks. They desperately need offense and may be better off with Jimmy Claussen.

Is Ray Rice that good, or is the Lions' run defense that horrible? I'm glad I didn't spend $200 to sit in the rain to see that in person.

Both, Shum. Rice is a tough little runner, and is a threat to take it to the house whenever he gets into space.

None of whom play Defensive tackle. We are better off with Suh than Clausen.

Falcons played their hearts out & lost a close one to the Saints. MUCH better than I figured that game to go. Still sucks that they lost, but still, the fact that this team was up against one of the undefeateds in the NFL & hung with them until the very end is telling, & shows that once again, ANYTHING can happen in a Falcons/Saints game.

That being said, my confidence in the Saints winning it all this year has eroded tremendously over the past two weeks. They beat the Skins via voodoo magic, & had their hands full with an extremely shorthanded Falcons squad. Not saying that this means the Saints are overrated, but an undefeated season is no longer a guarantee for these guys. I like the Colts MUCH better than the Saints at this point, & maybe even the Vikings when they aren't playing badly like they did last week against Arizona.

But, that's why they play the games. Can't wait to see this play out on the field. Too bad my Falcons won't be involved. :( Another lost season.

P.S.: No way in hell that was pass interference on Brent Grimes. No way in HELL.

<_<

Way to lay an egg in Houston, guys.

That was inexcusable. Now, with no postseason (again), it's time to play out the string and maybe throw some more monkey wrenches into other team's plans...

Beginning with Tampa and their plan to get Suh. :P

The Saints are overrated IMHO. They've run the table against a mostly creampuff schedule, but there's a good chance they'll be stuck with either the Cardinals or Packers as their first playoff opponent, and I can see both of those teams coming out of New Orleans with a win. (And wouldn't Fox just love to have as the NFC Championship matchup a third, final showdown between the Packers and Vikings?)

Not only Fox but the whole NFL universe possibly the most hyped NFL Game not named the Super Bowl in history. My dream matchup.

Sucks to see Ware go off like that. He's one of my favorite players in the league, and it's always a shame a season end like that.

Speaking of seasons ending, it's December & the Cowboys are losing. What a surprise.
