Division 1 College Conference Realignment

Emails illustrate that only Notre Dame could impact money per team.

Since there is a new playoff system, would the Big XII really elect to move away from a round robin, nine game season which they still could have two teams at 8-1 and eligible for two playoff spots as opposed to holding a title game and "double jeopardy"? FSU and CLEM only have hope if the Big XII schools do not officially approve the 13 year "grant of tiers 1 & 2 TV Rights", so that they could also get into the new deal but only fully after year 4.

Syracuse will be playing in the ACC in 2013. They've (or we've I guess if it's the university I attend) come to a settlement with the Big East for $7.5M. Still no word on what's gonna happen with Pittsburgh yet

Waiting to see if they need to be subbed in for Penn State presumably.

Is it a real possibility that Penn State could get the death penalty for the Sandusky cover up?

If so, wouldn't that F up the B1G since a conference needs 12 teams in order to hold a championship game?

I don't think it is, but if Penn State did go down, you'd probably see them grab Pittsburgh posthaste because that Pennsylvania footprint needs to replaced.

Granted Pitt is a real crappy replacement for Penn State, but Temple's even worse.

What's the B1G most likely to do if Penn State receives the death penalty

  1. replace them with Pitt
  2. go back to 11 teams
  3. give Notre Dame anything they want (keep NBC home game deal) to join conference
  4. other

What did the Southwest Conference do?

It died.

However, the Southwest Conference example is not relevant because either way they weren't playing a very lucrative end of season championship game.

I would assume, at least for the first year (if it were to start this upcoming season), that they would just give each team on Penn State's schedule a de facto win and reassess what they're going to do next season. It may seem a bit rash to just award a win to each team (that could turn out to be problematic if each B1G team doesn't play every other B1G team at least once, but that could be adjusted if they don't), but despite the atrocities committed by Penn State, the NCAA can't just cripple an entire conference and take away their championship game because of one team's wrongdoings. Might not be a perfect solution, but I can't think of anything else that would really be feasible.

Really, sliding Notre Dame into that spot would be perfect, if they didn't have a set schedule already. It'd be great if they could just take over Penn State's schedule, but it wouldn't work.

According to Newsday, Albany and Stony Brook are heading out of the America East and heading into the Colonial. I'm excited for this one because it means Hofstra-Stony Brook will become a permanent rivalry like it should be (they haven't played each other in much of anything for some reason as of late) and it should help keep the basketball conference competitive after they lost some members.

Actually, both are staying in the America East for all other sports...they're just joining the CAA for football:

In the most idiotic move they could possibly make, Idaho is going independent for football.

Proof or it didn't happen. (:P)

I know it sounds dumb to you (and I bet you are just laughing on the inside. Come on, Lights Out...I know that Bronco pride of yours won't let you not laugh at the Vandals for their decision), but what option did they have? The Mountain West hasn't come calling for them (and New Mexico State, for that matter) and what sense would it make to drop down to the FCS level. This was the only option they had, so they went with it. It may not be the smartest choice to make, but it was a choice they had to make for survival purposes.

It's this or drop to the Big Sky, so who could really blame them for wanting to give independence a try first.

Considering how horribly independence went for Utah State, and the general :censored:tiness of the Kibbie Dome, they probably would be better off going to the Big Sky.
