Phil Jackson is now 48-0 when his teams win Game 1 of any playoff series.

And this is interesting... When the NBA Finals are tied 1-1, the team that has won Game 3 has never lost the series. With the 2010 Lakers winning #16, the Game 3 winner is now 13-0.

The 2010 Celtics became the seventh team in NBA history to lose the NBA Finals despite a 3-2 series lead after winning Game 5. Statistically, teams that win Game 1 win the Finals 73% of the time, but the team that wins Game 5 wins the Finals 87% of the time.

Place it in the 2-3-2 era to be modern. U.S. posters here have no clue on real history American sport, less World Cup since it is during while I post this.

I misplaced my drunk to english dictionary, can someone translate this for me?

I'll give it my best shot.

What he was trying to say: "the modern era dates back to when the NBA switched to the 2-3-2 format for the NBA finals so that is where you have to begin calculating your figures. American posters have no sense of history when it comes to American sport. They know even less about World Cup history even though it is happening as I write this."

I don't agree with what he said, just translating.

From someone who would tune in occasionally and check out the highlights later on, it seemed to me like it wasn't a series of who won, but who lost. I at times got the impression that only one team on the court was interested. So to see Boston lose at 10+ point lead in game 7 isn't surprising to me. Though it wouldn't have been surprising to me to see the Lakers tank the series either.

As far as the Lakers and their "fans". I just don't get them. I guess Raider Nation needed something to do once the Raiders left LA and they became Laker fans. To see fans disgusted after a team loses or something like that, is one thing and I think to myself, "Relax people, it's just a game." Yet to time after time, see people riot after your team wins, I don't get it. There are that small percentage core of Lakers fans that have been there forever, but majority of Laker fans in LA and Orange County are just looking for something to be a part of and in all reality are losers. I feel sorry for the true Laker fans. Real Laker fans don't need to show their IQ levels by the amount of car flags on their car (each flag equals an IQ point). Real Laker fans can tell you the bench players in 1994. I doubt many Laker fans even know who Jamaal Wilkes is. It's the mentality of the current Laker fans and the LA media that the Lakers are the only thing that matters around her that has pushed me to be a Laker hater and as I watched Boston last night, I realized I'm starting to lean towards being a Boston fans because I don't want to be associated with these moronic Laker fans.

Today is always my favorite day of the year. It's the first day of a long, glorious summer where there is NO basketball on TV to get in the way of real sports. That right there, is enough to celebrate.

Oddly enough, seconded.

When comparing Game 7 of the NBA Finals and Game 6 of this year's Stanley Cup Final...it's not even close. The NHL blew the NBA out of the water this year. It was more entertaining, more passionate, and most of all, more believable. (And this is coming from a Bruins fan who saw his team lose a 3-0 series lead.)

Sorry, NBA. You lost me this season. You used to be at the top of my sports heap, and now you've slid into a distant fourth. The league has lost so much credibility in my eyes, and I'm not sure how it gets it back.

Wow, that's a blast from the past... one of the several players who went from the Lakers to the Clippers in their career. His corner shot from 20 feet out was always amazing to watch, except for when he was on the Lakers of course.

As for what "real" fans are supposed to know, I wouldn't expect even diehard fans to have the entire bench from sixteen years ago memorized. That's a little obsessive, honestly.

I realized I'm starting to lean towards being a Boston fans because I don't want to be associated with these moronic Laker fans.

The Celtics have an equally-bad bandwagoner reputation. The damn-near empty stadiums in the lean years pre-2002, pre-2008 and in the 1990's are evidence of that.

Unfortunately for you, the biggest star in American sports is currently making the decision of his career, and ESPN and others will be there ALL summer to make sure you know where Lebron goes, what he is wearing, and when he takes a crap.

Fortunately for me, he may be going to the Bulls

When hasn't the NHL Playoffs blown the NBA Playoffs out of the water of course since the lockout.

The only good time in recent memory for me is Golden State and the LA Clippers making it to the second round.

That Carolina-Edmonton final was pretty brutal, sorry. The Oilers were kinda bad and the Hurricanes were one of the worst "good" teams ever. Just a thoroughly uninspiring team. The corresponding NBA final was Can't Touch This (Dwyane Wade Remix), and it was still a lot better than the Stanley Cup Final. Playoffs as a whole were better too.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Jamaal Wilkes. Formerly Keith Wilkes. Played at UCLA. Wore number 52. Won three rings with the Lakers. I was once a Lakers fan. I became a Lakers fan because my favorite player (#33) was traded from the Bucks to the Lakers. It worked out pretty well for me. Then #33 retired, Magic got HIV and left, and I didn't follow the NBA at all until this season.

I'm no longer a Lakers fan but I damn sure know Jamaal "silk" Wilkes. :D

Really? You seemed to have the opposite mindset before the Celtics played like idiots down the strech. Instead of going for high percentage shots, your boyz were taking three pointers and jump shots when their feet weren't set and shoulders weren't squared to the basket. Couple that with the fact that Kobe took an ill advised 25 footer (when the game was 79-76), wasn't even close and Pau Gasol got the rebound, was fouled, then made two free throws. Nah, that couldn't have had the slightest effect on why the Celtics lost.

Exactly. Heck, a lot of people probably don't even realize that before the LA/Sacramento rivalry of 1999-2002 that Doug Christie was in fact a Laker. Hell, it'd be hard pressed for these people to even know the current bench, let alone that of 16 years ago.

I actually cemented this mindset in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Orlando (and the Celtics won Game 6 handily, if you'll recall). It was one of the most ridiculous displays of officiating and bias I've ever seen in sports. Game 7 was the only full game of the Finals that I watched, as a result.

Officiating was poor throughout the Finals, but it's not because the referees learned too far one way or another. That fourth quarter of game 7, the Lakers were aggressive offensively while the Celtics became passive and started settling for poor shots. That, in addition to the Celtics having looked tired which typically results in you being poor positioning which typically results in fouls, is going to result in a pretty sizable difference in free throws.

Celtics fans want to complain, but I really don't think there's much to complain about. I'm sure ya'll weren't complaining about the free throw margin in 2008...

Who won the game made no difference to me and this is what I saw. The Celtics simply ran out of gas and did all of the things you've already mentioned. At no point did I think the officials were playing favorites.

My guess is if you had told Celtic fans back in early March that they would end up losing the finals in seven games they would have thought you were crazy. I know it's easier said than done but Celtics fans should be pretty pleased with the season their team had. No one thought they'd get as far as they did.

I don't even care who's playing, the whole sport is just awful. It seems like every time a player drives to the basket it won't even matter if he actually makes the shot, because he's gonna get free throws at the end of it anyway. I've tried so hard to get into basketball but the way it speeds up only to come to a screeching halt due to a foul or a ball knocked out of bounds drives me absolutely crazy. Baseball is slow, hockey is fast, but at least both are fairly consistent about it. Football has a similar problem as basketball, but it's just more of a physical game so it's at least somewhat enjoyable. I used to fight through this problem and just try to enjoy basketball, but after that horribly officiated Kings Lakers series in the early 2000s I backed off. Then when the referee scandal popped up, I dropped it completely. It's just an awful sport, and the NBA makes it even worse.

* This is just my opinion. Most basketball fans look at me like I'm nuts when I say this, but again, it's just an opinion.

I'm not complaining that the Celtics lost. Don't misunderstand that. I didn't complain when the Patriots lost Super Bowl XLII, I didn't complain when the Bruins lost a 3-0 series lead, and I didn't complain when the Red Sox choked the ALDS against the Angels last year. That's not what this is about.

This is about a general theme of inconsistency in the NBA. No two games are called alike. While that's true for other sports, at least other sports are called fairly, however loose or tight the calls may be. The NBA is completely different. The game can be called in a ridiculous manner, and if you complain about it, you're just "pissed your team lost." That's not always the case.
