Just got home from the Rangers home opener, spoiled by those Leafs 4-3 in OT, but Gaborik is out 2-3 weeks with a separated shoulder (oh the pain) and Drury is out 6 weeks after breaking the same finger he broke earlier (oh the pa...wait, that's good that he's out isn't it?)

If your goal is to see Glenn Sather standing behind Omar at the unemployment offices, yes.

Caps pull a rabbit out of their hat with a 3-2 OT win in Nashville tonight. They played awful, but Neuvirth bailed them out time after time after time. Doesnt help with your 2 top defensemen out tho, Neuvirth won us that game.

Thrashers just beat San Jose 4-2, at the Shark Tank, no less. This means that the Thrashers have wins over last year's Presidents' Trophy winner & runners-up. That's pretty cool, I guess. :P

Last night's game versus the Devils was great! Only thing that bummed me was Patrice Bergeron trying to do too much with the puck. Other than that, I loved watching the Bruins. Looks like it's going to be a great year for the black and gold.

Coyotes captain Shane Doan suspended 3 games and fined $74,000 for this blindside hit on the Ducks forward Dan Sexton last night:

He also delivered this hit earlier in the game, that resulted in a broken nose for Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler:

An aunt of Rick DiPietro's wife died from breast cancer, and to honor her memory, DiPietro is doing what he can to help raise awareness and money in search of a cure. He will be wearing these pink pads. After he wears the pads, he'll be auctioning them off through his foundation, with the money going to breast cancer research.

Don't look now, but the Stars are 4-0-0.

Question, if they don't allow ties anymore, why not a simple Win/Loss record? Are points still necessary?

Yes, the loser point for an OTL.

But each game ends with a win and a loss...whether it ends in regulation or via the gimmick. Why hand out points for playing a 61st minute when each game has a definitive winner/loser?

The old system of win-loss-tie is clearly broken, but in order to keep some tradition to it, points are still used.

Perhaps if it wants to remain relevant, it should be 3 for a regulation win, 2 for an overtime win, and 1 for an overtime loss.

I loathe how the Blues can't finish games.

Hopefully he manages not to get injured before he wears them.

Ask the NHL.

Their reasoning was that before points were given away for losing in overtime teams would hang back and play for the tie. I think that's bologna. I don't know if I've ever been able to tell the difference between before and after the point change and if it's picked up the level of play in OT. Any statistic that you could use on overtime goals before and after the point change would be misleading because the point change system pretty much coincided with the rule changes (such as 4 on 4 in OT) that have resulted in more scoring themselves.

If you ask me, I think it's dumb. A lot of the drama of overtime is gone because the losing team still gets rewarded. I will say this, I like the shootout and I never thought I would when they were talking about implementing it.

Dropping the OTL column would also go a long way to helping people outside the game avoid the confusion about why the NHL has three columns in the standing sheet and ties aren't one of them.
