He was the second worst defensive second basemen in baseball last year, and is on the wrong side of 30. He's already a liability there, and unless you want an absolute black hole in the middle of the infield, needs to be moved.

The problem therein is that his bat isn't anywhere near as special at first, third or in a corner outfield position.

Derek Jeter is the worst defensive SS in the World but he still gets gold gloves.

Omar Infante would have to repeat this past years performance for this to not be an absolute steal for the Braves. Uggla is not that much of a liability at 2nd. He is not gonna Roger Dorn everything over there and he is going to bring a right-handed bat to the middle of a lefty-heavy lineup. He will thrive at Turner Field where he has been great. The Yankees and Phillies (and maybe the Red Sox) are the only teams that wouldn't benefit from Uggla at 2nd. Unless you are a fan of one of those teams you would be crazy not to want him on your squad.

Yes he is. He really, truly is. I know you're in Lights Out homer-mode, but he's truly a :censored:ing butcher out there.

And given their overall games, contracts, I'd absolutely include the Rangers and Ian Kinsler as a team that would not benefit from him at 2nd. There are several players I'd definitely consider, especially at the cost, for someone who last year was 14th in the league in WAR among second basemen.

Uggla is an upgrade defensively over Brooks Conrad, and Infante's role will now go to Martin Prado.

The Braves gave up a dime-a-dozen utility player that had a career year and a relief pitcher that had trouble throwing strikes. This is a steal of a deal.

Yeah I was gonna say, I watched with my own two eyes Brooks Conrad single-handedly cost the Braves their season vs the Giants. Any upgrade, even Dan Uggla, is a step up from that.

It wont take long this is an awful hire, Terry Collins is a born loser who will no make the Mets accountable on the field it will be more of the same. So far Sandy Alderson is not impressing me.

...until Uggla makes Brooks Conrad look like Bill Mazeroski. The grass is always greener on the other side.

During the season, the original Marlins offer to Uggla was 4 years for $24MM. Ownership went against the recommendation of the baseball staff and went up to 4/$49MM. Last week, there were only two teams interested in trading for Uggla to play 2B...Atlanta and Toronto.

Yeah he hasn't traded Oliver Perez for Albert Pujols what a douche.

Look, he's totally revamped the baseball operations and have basically no money to spend until next offseason. What do you want from the man, seriously? Everyone knows that 2011 is basically a lost season anyway, give the man a chance. There's been what, 2 free agent signings so far? Jeez.

If the team sucks so bad then why don't you stop watching and wasting your money on them? Oh, and you can't call anyone a loser when you have over 30,000 posts.

Correct.

This actually really surprises me, at least Toronto's interest, unless they have plans to move Aaron Hill either via a trade or to another position.

I understanding the revamping of the system was needed big time, and the 2011 season is lost but Terry Collins is the best he could do? I just dont think so. Collins was part of this mess last year and has never been a good manager any where. Its like Art Howe all over again.

Also I dont care who they get Oliver Perez better not be on the roster next year, I dont want to hear any excuses. If Perez is still there that will show nothing has changed.

Uggla's people were still stuck on the 5 for $71MM since the season started. The TOR and ATL issues were talked about via Dan LeBatard on Thursday.

I've always thought that Collins was very underrated with the Angels. It could have been a lot worse in the beginning of the Disney era.

Well they seemed to get better as soon as Collins was gone. I always thought he was one of the reasons the Angels were so putrid in the late 90s.

There were a lot of reasons for that. Collins was not the biggest.

And they got better, because he was replaced (after interim manager Joe Maddon, who was also interim when Collins was named) by Mike Scioscia, who is one of the best managers in baseball.

Brooks Conrad had 8 errors in his last 7 games.

Uggla can't be that bad in the field. And he can make up for it with his hitting. Sabermetrics may be fine and dandy, but Uggla's overall play passes the "eye test" moreso than Brooks Conrad and Omar Infante.

You sure it wasn't that the Halos' big offseason acquisitions were Mo Vaughn, Cecil Fielder, Tim Belcher and Jack McDowell?

Plus, 1999 was the only really awful (i.e. losing) season during Collins' tenure as manager.

The Mets have the same make up full of dead weight bad contracts of players who only care about cashing said check. I just want someone who is not afraid to tell Carlos Beltran to stop loafing, or David Wright to stop swinging for a home run, or to tell Jose Reyes to grow up. I don't think Collins will do that.

Yeah, because, heck, they were above .500 and in second in the two previous years.

Plus beyond the mentioned free agent busts, this was the year with injury issues all over the place (DiSarcina, Edmonds) and before they injected youth into the starting rotation (the youngest starter with at least 20 appearances was 31).

You want to wait and see how things go before you completely turn on the new management?

gah, I couldn't write Tank as a character. It's hilarious. We're months away from the season and already the benefit of the doubt has flown out the window and he's crabby with the new management. You can still smell Omar's last meal in the building and already Tank has turned on the new guy. Awesome.
