Dodger fans going for title worst fans in America

http://sports.espn.g...tory?id=6280485

A fan wearing San Francisco Giants apparel was beaten in the Dodger Stadium parking lot following Thursday night's season opener.

The man who was beaten is in critical but stable condition, Los Angeles Police Department watch commander Sgt. Sanford Rosenberg told the Los Angeles Times.

The LAPD said it is looking for two men who they say attacked three Giants fans -- including the man taken to the hospital -- in the parking lot after the game, which was won by the Dodgers. The men who police are looking for were wearing Dodgers apparel.

"The man suffered a serious head injury during the assault after the game,'' Rosenberg told the newspaper.

You arrive in the 3rd Inning leave i the 7th and beat up fans from other teams, yet another black eye for LA

56,000 people were there Tank. Of that 56,000, two of them were involved in the incident. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that two people out of 56,000 probably isn't a large enough sample to support your hypothesis.

Though when one knucklehead does something abhorrent at a Philadelphia sporting event, it's "Philadelphia fans are savages, that city sucks!" Really think about it - how different would this story be treated if it happened here?

My point is that I think you're response to Tnak may have been different, and there would likely be a full page of follow-up posts bringing up the booing of Santa Clause (among other things) and it would likely be all over the news. Bottom line - sports fans are dumb. Everywhere.

Give me some credit here. My response would have been the same no matter where it took place. Two Phillies fans beating the daylights out of a Mets fan doesn't mean all Phillies fans will beat the daylights out of all Mets fans. That aside, it's not like people just made up Philly's reputation. As someone who lives among Cleveland sports fans I can tell you that the reputation they have is well earned. Cleveland isn't misunderstood or unfairly labeled.

The percentage of vocal fans who fit the Cleveland stereotype is large enough to warrant the criticisms leveled against them. Is it fair to Cleveland fans that don't fit the stereotype? No, but the truth is that the Cleveland fans who aren't whining morons are in the vocal minority. Unfortunately, a large portion of our fans have embraced the role of "angst ridden Cleveland sports fans." They wear it like a badge of honor. Now unless Philadelphia sports fans have managed to achieve some level of enlightenment that no other fan base has reached, my guess is a fair portion of them embrace their "role" as "Philly fans" just as passionately as Cleveland fans have embraced their role as scorned prom dates.

So to address your point, would the story have been treated differently if the incident had taken place in Philadelphia? Yes, but let's not pretend that Philadelphia's reputation is entirely unwarranted. Sports fans are indeed dumb everywhere. It's the things that they're dumb about that make the difference.

Not for nothing my man, but your general demeanor around here doesn't do much to contradict the perception people have of Philadelphia sports fans. B)

Jeremy Guthrie has given me some major hope about this season. Whether it was a fluke or not, what a way to start the season for a team trying to prove it's the real deal (well, at least the real deal to play 0.500 ball).

You can't make this up:

http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=6284137

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was forthright when asked about the New York Mets' usage of left-handed specialist Pedro Feliciano last season, calling it "abusive."

"He was abused," Cashman said. "It's a thin market when you're looking for lefties, and he's one of the better ones out there. But you don't typically go after a guy who's been used like that."

Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen says he is not an abuser.

Warthen said Feliciano's setting franchise records for appearances three straight years (86, 88 and 92 games) was done willingly by the southpaw.

Warthen said about the left-hander's heavy workload: "[The Yankees] didn't know that when they signed him? ... He volunteered for the baseball every day. He was asked whether he was able to pitch. He said 'yes' every day -- every day -- and wanted to pitch more than we even pitched him."

Are you kidding me? If he was so abused why'd you give him a 2 year $8 million deal in November? And people wonder why everyone hates the Yankees?

One of the big failures of Randolph and Manuel was the way they handled the Mets pen. So I can see Cashman's point.

BTW

SNY even is punking Mets fans now.

No, I'm pretty sure they would. :D

Kyle Drabek had a 1 hitter today for his first career major league win. Nice start for the Jays

I was a little disappointed when the Phillies got Lee instead of Halladay in '09 (though it worked out), but I could understand their reluctantness to part with Drabek. Kid has all sorts of potential.

Well I haven't hurled any batteries at Lights Out, vomited on DeFrank, urinated on Pinhead, or thrown beer on that idiot that gets pissed whenever anyone makes fun of the Phoenix Coyotes, so I'm not sure what you mean.

I assume that you mean that the belief is that Philadelphia sports fans hate idiot teenagers who have no business posting their dumb opinions on the internet, people who like to argue for the sake of arguing but have no real arguing skills, "homers" who defend their team as if their team is somehow out there representing them or defending their honor, and weirdos who masturbate to pictures of Jesus or Tim Tebow. In that case, I'm more than happy to uphold that perception.

I think the Rangers have hit about 30 home runs in the last two games, and I'm truly beginning to think that I have underrated this team. The bullpen was very solid last year and added an all star, even if he qualifies for social security, the defense, when in optimal alignment, I truly believe is THE best defense in baseball, and this offense... Jesus. When the team gets some of it's starters back from injury...

Silly me for thinking the goofy smiling emoticon was going to be a dead giveaway that I was kidding with you. What was I thinking?

Somehow, the Phillies have upset the Astros again. Imagine if they actually had any semi-decent pitching!

Can something really be "semi-decent?" Maybe it's just the painkillers I'm on but it seems to me that decent is pretty cut and dry. Something is either decent or it's not. Semi-decent makes about as much sense as half pregnant. Then again, I'm pretty stoned right now so it's entirely possible that I'm way off base here.

On topic, I'm as stunned as my esteemed colleague is over the Astros start. I didn't see them losing a game until sometime in May.

And silly me for thinking that my obviously extreme reaction in which I took passive-aggressive (or comically over-aggressive depending on your point of view) shots at board members who annoy me was a did giveaway that I was kidding with you.
