Ich liebe Deutschland! Seriously though, people need to start taking German soccer more seriously.

Hard to do when GOL TV has the Bundasliga rights in the US.

This is most certainly a big prohibiting factor, yes.

Also it's worth keeping in mind that this was the BuLi's first UCL title in 12 years and that with the exception of Bayern, German clubs really aren't well-known around the world. It goes to show something when everyone else regards the country's second-biggest club as being a "Hipster Club" that nobody's heard of.

I'm a huge supporter of German football and the Bundesliga (IMO, Bayern's the best team in the world and the Bundesliga's the most entertaining league in the world) but it's gonna take more than just Bayern being a big factor to grow the overall Bundesliga brand.

That said though, I'm not sure that they're all that concerned about things in Germany, relatively speaking. Say what you want about La Liga or Serie A winning things but it just takes one look at the finances of Bundesliga clubs to see that perhaps the Germans are the ones doing things right (this seems to have been a huge revelation amongst English fans recently).

To be fair, I think this is just the beginning of a golden age for the sport in Germany though. Dortmund won't be as good of a squad next year but Klopp'll keep them in contention for perhaps another run in the near future. Bayern of course are the best team in Europe and are only getting better next year and any league in which Freiburg has the ability to seriously contend for the Champions League has the parity to be successful.

But yeah, can someone real pay for the Bundesliga TV rights here? ^_^

Why do people assume parity is a good thing? Spain's league has been dominated by 2 clubs for as long as anyone cane remember. The French league has been won by 5 teams in 5 years. Spain's league is considered one of the best 2 or 3 in the world, France's is regarded as a bit of a joke, generally. It's a long time since a French team was a genuine contender for the Champions League.

That being said, the Bundesliga is the cool league about now. Be interesting to see how competitive a league it is in the transfer market this summer.

So La Liga is a less competitive SEC? How the crap does getting their :censored: wrecked by Barca and Real make Valencia great?

Why do people assume parity is a good thing?

Because a league's going to collapse upon itself if it's the same storyline every year... kind of like how the club finishing 3rd in La Liga is having to sell its best player this summer because they're so far in debt.

Also, I'd rather watch Ligue 1 than La Liga because it's actually interesting year-in, year-out. It's not just oh hey, which one of Barça or Real Madrid is going to draw more with clubs not named FC Barcelona or Real Madrid?

That being said, the Bundesliga is the cool league about now. Be interesting to see how competitive a league it is in the transfer market this summer.

Probably not too competitive (with the exception of Bayern). It's not really the German way to go out and blow money on transfers and while Dortmund'll be bringing guys in (most notably de Bruyne or Schürrle), it's because they've got Götze and possibly Lewandowski and more leaving this summer. Remember that while many members of this Dortmund team were bought from other clubs, they were developed into world-class players by BVB; not the approach many of their competitors take in only buying finished products.

But in general, the Germans are going to be successful both on the club and international stage because after the embarrassment of Euro 2000, they decided to actually give a flying :censored: about developing talent. And they're just now starting to see the full benefits of it.

But parity doesn't mean better quality. As I say, France hasn't really had a competitive Champions League contender, well ever. The Premier League has made a lot of its parity over the last decade or so, and yet standards have slowly been dropping. Barca and Real Madrid are better teams than they were a decade ago, even if Real aren't the galacticos anymore. Yes Ligue 1 is probably more consistently an exciting league than La Liga, but at what price? Lower overall standards and a less quality national team. It's quality that should be the key, not parity.

La Liga's perception as being a good league is shaped entirely by two clubs who would be good if they played in Albania. Let's stop pretending La Liga is a great league overall.

Sure the teams at the top of the Spanish pyramid are really, really good but I'd certainly make the argument that Wolfsburg (Germany's 11th-placed team) is better than Levante (Spain's 11th-placed team).

Hell, I don't think that Valenciennes is really worse than Levante either. Don't let two teams that are very, very good make you think the La Liga's top-to-bottom a good league. If it was, it wouldn't be financially collapsing upon itself.

IMHO Celtic and Rangers really need to be promoted into the Premier league or the Championship. It's becoming a joke how every year The Old Firm wins pretty much every title while every other team in Scottish football is nearing the point of bankruptcy. It would work for everyone, the SFA will FINALLY have parity for the first time in 100 years, and Celtic and Rangers will finally play teams that are equal to their ability. If Welsh teams like Swansea and Cardiff City are allowed into English football, then so should the best two Scottish teams.

The Welsh teams though have been part of the English League system for many, many years, long before a proper professional league was established in Wales. Swansea and Cardiff have both worked their way up through the divisions to achieve their current Premier League status — would Rangers and Celtic be willing to do similar and start in non-League and work their way up? I'd guess not.

Also, losing Celtic and Rangers would kill Scottish professional soccer since they are the only teams people want to watch. As it is, making Rangers start from 3rd Division is likely going to do serious damage to Scottish soccer.

If I was a part of the English FA I would want no part of that two headed dragon of sectarianism in Glasgow. I would let them play in Scotland. Also Rangers doesn't deserve to be helped by joining a league with more money and exposure, they deserve to flounder for a bit for their transgressions.

Also IF (key word) Scotland becomes independent then they would have no case for joining the EPL or Championship.
