New Mexico's own Cody Ross (remember him?) has agreed to a 3-year deal with the D-Backs.

Woo! World Series here they come! :P

Former Major Leaguer Ryan Freel commits suicide

:censored:. One of my all-time favorite Reds.

Woah! That's awful news. I remember Freel being absolutely awesome for the Reds. Didn't he even have a season or two where he was up there in MVP talks? Man, that's just terrible.

Freel gained some notoriety in August of 2006 when The Dayton Daily News reported that Freel talks to an imaginary voice in his head named Farney.[4] Said Freel: "He's a little guy who lives in my head who talks to me and I talk to him. That little midget in my head said, 'That was a great catch, Ryan,' I said, 'Hey, Farney, I don't know if that was you who really caught that ball, but that was pretty good if it was.' Everybody thinks I talk to myself, so I tell 'em I'm talking to Farney."[5] Freel later said that Farney's name arose from a conversation with Reds trainer Mark Mann: "He actually made a comment like, 'How are the voices in your head?' We'd play around and finally this year he said, 'What's the guy's name?' I said, 'Let's call him Farney.' So now everybody's like, 'Run, Farney, run' or 'Let Farney hit today. You're not hitting very well.'"[6]

Now I feel bad that I almost ascribed this to Joe McEwing. Anyway, that's sad.

EDIT: I also thought it might have been Joe Randa, but couldn't come up with the name, it was just floating in my mind as "Pirates/Reds Jim or Joe _ _ _ _ _ "

Swisher to the Indians.

Does anyone else feel like it seems like Nick Swisher has been playing for like 40 dam* years or something like that?

Dude's almost like the modern-day Craig Counsell or something....

Yeah, I thought he was on the '03 A's that coughed up a 2-0 lead on the Red Sox in the ALDS. Turns out he wasn't even full-time till 2005!

The opposite is Aramis Ramirez, who I can't believe has been in the majors since 1998. I forget that he spent five and a half years with the Pirates. I preferred to believe he was sprung from the head of Zeus when the Cubs needed a third baseman for the playoffs.

The Nationals have come to a 2-year agreement with Adam LaRoche.

This likely means the end of the Beast's (Michael Morse) tenure in DC. With the acquisition of Span earlier this winter the only spot left for Morse to play everyday was 1B. Now that LaRoche has been signed, Morse has no where to go and is being shopped around more actively. The word on the internet is that Rizzo is looking to add some more pitching depth with such a trade. Specifically, getting a LH reliever that they have been largely unsuccessful in signing this off-season.

Trading Morse (who will be a free agent after the 2013 campaign) is probably the best thing for the Nationals, but I will miss him. He should be a solid player for whichever team picks him up.

Rafael Soriano to the Nats. 2 years 28 mil, definitely will close with that type of dough.

Storen probably will become the 8th inning guy, with possibly Clippard in the 7th? Although none of those 3 are lefties. Solid lefty reliever appears to be the only real hole for the Natties. Jury's still out on how Bill Bray will do.

Funny you say that. I am 38 and I recall last year thinking he was one of the few players older than me. He's now 32. His MLB debut was in 2004 and a year ago, I'd honestly have guessed it came in the 90s.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."
